right, little update, problem still stands after the garage 'thought' they had done it by changing the throttle actuator. its clearly not that, it comes on and stays on... but every once and a while it decides to go off and be fine, turn the car off and start again, it can come up.... any ideas...
cheers for the replies, its not spluttery at all, sounds sweet, just the revving goes up down etc, i initially think its lambda sensors but not sure which one, ^^^ as you say pre cat sensor... took it to the garage today anyway so will have to wait for the hefty bill!
right, heres the deal, i have a clio 172 (facelift) and basically the emissions light comes and goes, when the light is on, it revs by itself and if i put my foot on the throttle it wont pass 3000rpm.
i think its a faulty lamba sensor(s) but would like a second opinion before i take it to a...
sorry, gearbox, it was late lol, i found out where its leaking, the end of the gearbox plastic housing is missing a bolt and come away from the gearbox itself, just need to know where the filler plug is and what tranmission fluid is needed for a ph2 172 (2002).

Would a leaking transmission effect power? when i say leaking, i mean it was pouring out at one point after a long journey, plus, whats the most common problem when it comes to a leaking transmission?
Well being a student I leave my car at home and when i come back from uni i drive it, so i am a temporary driver, not building up no claims but dont see why i need too seeing as being a temporary driver on my 172 is £365 a year fully comp.
that seems quite a bit, i mean the cambelt is a fair amount of the cost (if not most) but i had my 172 cambelt done the other day (harder than 1.2 due to lack of bay space) and it cost me £257 plus they changed my front pads! £510 seems a bit much to me.

^^^ Thats no bad, direct line have killed me though, built up a years no claims and because I moved insurance they wouldnt transfer my no claims over. Hence why ive gone temporary cover.
