Loss of compression causing a poor idle and black smoke but runs ok when driving, leak down test showed leak to be coming from the breather which connects to the air pipe to the throttle body. So the leak is pistons, rings or block ordered new rings and honed the block just need to check pistons...
The gap would be too big then surley its on the edge nowband the new ones are a larger gap to the old ones, bores are all around 82.50 give or take 0.10
Just removed the top piston ring the existing gap was 0.35+ or - 0.05
brand new ring gaps are 0.40 + or - 0.5 how is that even possible?
Middle ring down from 0.70 to 0.40 so hopefully my compression loss is through the middle ring but I'm stumped why a new ring would have a bigger gap than...
Hi any recommendations for oil coolers and size for track only 172 n/a with gauges, had a couple engines go wrong so I want to try and best avoid any future damage also does the filter protect the cooler from debris should a rod snap, or if a rod shatter or something like that do you have to buy...

I have a rough idle and water/black smoke out of the exhaust, suspect a bent valve or injector 14ohms across all injectors and cleaned throttle body but this made no difference, compression test revealed 1round 125 across all four, I read on here that it should be around 200 so is that my issue...
