Well I went to a fair & got a garden ornament. At the stall she called it 'ready to rust'

So to help my 14 year old daughter I had a little experiment.

I dipped one bird in salt Solution (3%) and painted Bilt Hamber Atom Mac on the other.

After 1 Day.

After 6 Days. Dry But overnight Dampness:

After 19 Days. Lots of Rain.

Pretty mad how quickly salt rusts steel.

Without salt even untreated not rusting that quick.

At this point I would say Bilt Hamber treated best but not by significant margin.

Atom Mac is water soluble isn't it? So eventually the rain will wash it away and the rest of the ornament will rust?

Yes. You make up a solution of it.

Only last a short amount of time.

Just intrested to see how long. But the untreated ones lasting longer than expected. Maybe a slight oil residue? Maybe should have cleaned first.

10 weeks in. All looking bad. Really just a test of how rapidly a short exposure to salt impacts.

No real differentiation at this point on the non salt treated ones.

A timely reminder as they throw it on the roads.
