Nearest exhaust to oem for a clio 182

Hi everyone,

I'm in need of some advice. My centre section has unfortunately succumbed to age related rust, and I'm not too fond of the Scorpion backbox since it constantly needs adjusting. So, I'm on the lookout for a new exhaust system.

I'm looking for something that closely resembles the OEM exhaust in both sound and appearance. It would be great if it isn't too boomy, as I do a few track days each year and have some 1000-mile driving holidays planned with my Clio.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I was always happy with my resonated milltek, it has slightly larger tips than standard and is definitely louder than the standard system, but not antisocial in my opinion.

I had a Janspeed cat back on a Trophy once and I still say it’s the best sounding ever. Just louder than standard, no stupid slash cut boy racer nonsense, and raspy over 5k. 👌🏽

Orbisoud also sound similar and the fit is really good. Lots of money though and you’d need to hunt one secondhand because they aren’t made anymore.

Resonated Milltek with standard cat was lovely on the road on my previous Clio. So quiet compared to the PMS sportcatted system I've got now😂

How loud is the PMS system? From the pictures it looks very nice and is at the top of my 'spend more money than I need to list' .

It's hard to say because my Clio is fully covered in sound deadening.

It's definitely a lovely system, sounds good on full chat and doesn't drone much but it's a substantial bit louder than the Milltek.

Not sure if the standard vs sports cat makes a difference. @frayz didn't you have the PMS system with both the oem and the sports cat?

Thank you everyone. Looks like it's a milltek system is what I need.

I can't find a janspeed system but have emailed Janspeed to see if they still produce them.

I had a PMS with decat and a stock cat. The stock cat is already a high flow cat so I don’t personally see any reason to fit an aftermarket sports cat.

How loud and boomy was the PMS system and was it well made?
They’re a work of art. Incredibly well designed and arguably the best systems available. Expensive but you get what you pay for. All 4 of my 182s have/had PMS systems. 1 with a decat, the other 3 with the sport cell 200.

They have a unique sound. Cold start reversing out of my drive on tickover sets my neighbours car alarm off (result). I’m told by my work colleagues that it sounds amazing when pulling into the car park. Not loud, just a really nice tone. Hard throttle is where they come into their own.

Best sounding exhaust (for my old ears!) that i ever had was on my BG 182, i got the K-Tec centre line as i was fed up of the standard mounts sagging (and the powerflow that it came with was deafening, Think about a car with 4 destroyed wheel bearings and your half way there)

It came with its own mounting system which meant it sat perfectly all the time.

I ran it with a SILENCED decat pipe and it sounded pretty much standard with just a slightly deeper tone!

I’ve got a janspeed non resonated one on mine with no cat. Very much not quiet but does sound pretty decent.

My ocd doesn’t allow for wonky sticky out pipes so I went with the one that matches the bumper profile.

I fitted a 2nd hand k-tec non-res with the biggest powerflow center res they could fit to my 172 ph2 when my OEM exhaust rotted through and fell off. I could not believe how much nicer than the OEM the result was. It started sounding amazing rather than just like any other 4-pot but not loud at all. Also I fully expected it not to do anything at all for the performance and my butt-dyno doesn't work at all well but it actually made the midrange noticeably stronger. Wished I'd done it sooner.

Forgot to add. I emailed Janspeed to enquire about buying an exhaust, they still have the jigs and can produced a cat back system for £750 plus delivery and VAT if anyone wants one.
