Error code P0325

  Clio 172 cup
Just had my belts done and error code P0325 has popped up was going to replace my rod knock sensor and if it hasn’t cleared after that take it back to the place I had the belts done, any guides on replacing the sensor and what other things it could be causing it.

Easy to do, undo the fuel rail guard and its on the bottom left on the front of the engine. Is a big bolt looking thing with wires running out of it. Hard to get a socket on I unclipped the sensor at the other end and used a swan neck spanner threading the wire through the hole on the spanner. Took about 30 mins. Part was about £30 from Renault.

Knock sensor needs torquing up properly so it reads right if you change it

Is it actually running ok?

I would personally get it scanned with something better i.e can clip or rstuner that shows the proper df codes stored and extended data, as them p codes can lead you up the garden path.

Only major thing I can notice is my MPG has dropped significantly and a strong fuel smell

Who done the cambelt? Local garage or specialist?

If cam timing is incorrect mpg usually takes a hit

Do they have the proper tools? There's a bit of a process to follow when timing these engines up, tipex won't do. Tons of threads on here of engines with the timing out, very common it's wrong when not done by someone who knows these engines.

When I called them up for a quote he did say I’ll get back to you because they weren’t sure if they had the correct tools, but after getting back to me they stated that they did L.

As above tricky to do - Would not be suprised if its not timed up right if not done by a specialist with the correct renault tooling.
In terms of rectification what can I do, what can I say to the garage who has carried out the timing, I’ve had to drive it today as I have no other vehicle It’s used probably quarter of a tank for a 25 mile trip. My gauge is reading 13.6 mpg

Thats ridiculous mpg to be fair for street use.

Where are you based? Take it to a specialist.

Depends how much you trust them to make it right IMO. Either go to them if you believe they will make it right, courtesy car to get to work while they sort it, or go to a specialist and ask them to look and give you some proof if it's been done wrong, then go back to the garage with said proof and ask for your money back. Speak to them first, you'll soon see if they're mortified and desperate to fix it, or if they couldn't give a toss and it may end up being an expensive lesson.

That's really bad.

For reference, my mildly modded 182 hit 34.0mpg last week after having the cambelt changed at a specialist a couple of months ago. And I use it for commuting mainly - not sat at steady motorway speeds.

Yeah sounds way off, how lumpy is it at idle? If you have a reader, you can also try to check the map sensor reading, should be around 0.4 bar. If timing is off this reading is also off.
