Data breaches are so common, they're not even IT news now are they.
The amount of API's to and from 3rd parties here is mental. Dog s**t security, if any. But nevertheless, once that 3rd party has the data, then you're just fucked anyway. All posture checks of other entities are just based on hopes and dreams - in the form of a self assessment tick sheet.

I give up.

We have a customer complaint that if they change the name of the license file we provide from license.txt to licence.txt then they get an error saying the system can’t find it and they can’t log on.

On the one hand I almost admire the level of pedantic nitpicking needed to do that in the first place, but to then raise it as a product bug is a whole new level.

And yes, I know they’re technically correct and in UK english it should be licence, but we’re a global company who does a lot of business in the US and frankly we can call the damn thing horsetodger.txt if we f**king want to.

And….. breathe.

Oh it infuriates me having to use American spelling in code as a lot of methods and that are like .getColor() and authorization

Gahhhhh!!!!!

Although I do have great pleasure closing support tickets going “user error” when they are clearing being a moron.

Ive been hearing rumours competition commission or such have told Softcat to essentially stop outpricing everyone in the market for M365.

Any others heard this?
Vodafone tried that and undercut softcat on E3 by about 20 percent, avoided

Does anyone here work in IT focused Business Development?, We are a smallish London based IT company branch out from PE backed internal workload generation to a fully commercialised MSP (with a Cyber Security focus). I'm looking for someone not afraid to get stuck in, will need to wear multiple hats for the first six months to get the transition off the ground.....message me if you know of anyone!

Some big CNI contracts at the minute coming in. Needing to expand the IT cyber function pretty quickly.

Another day, another huge vulnerability at work

First cPanel/webmail auth bypass, then RHEL8-10 wheel escalation via user and now ftp. 4pm cannot come soon enough, f**king 11 hours yesterday plus 3 hours on call, didn't get home until half 11 and I was back up early this morning

Doesn't help that there's an intel driver issue on some of our dedi estate so the software raid array falls apart on anything Alma9.X, so I'm having to re-compile arrays every 20 minutes. Had a customer yesterday that didn't patch and reboot so got absolutely pwnd and lost everything and now we're having to explain how to migrate all of his sites back from caddied drives, fun fun fun

This week is hellish

I have a few cyber security roles advertised if anyone - or knows anyone looking. Building out a team of professional services to work on government/CNI projects.

Security architect, principal consultant and mid + junior grade analysts.

I really wish I'd got trained up in cyber sec, seems so much better for career progression compared to where I'm at now :/

Depends where you look

I have a degree in forensics and cybersecurity. Most of the people I went to uni with don't have any aspiration to do cybersecurity, and everyone that wanted to be in the Police quickly changed their minds when they realised it'd be looking at nonces computers 😂

I think that's most people on here is it not, spend all day looking at a nonce's computer? ;)

I've been in 'cyber' since the late 2000s and wouldn't want to not be tbh.

My latest role, of which I'm in the process of being made redundant, was the biggest departure from that in that the vendor I worked for isn't a security vendor, but had security capability in their product which I was there to shill.

But I've been in technical sales based roles the last 12 years rather than being operational as such, best move I made tbh (ignoring the redundancies...)

IT sales dudes are the only good thing about the industry. I'd never have been to as many strip joints otherwise.

Imagine taking any of my actual work mates out... 1) I couldn't even get them to 2) they'd nut all over.

Now.... Let's circle back and touch base, on IT sales....

As an SE I like to think of myself as somewhere inbetween Moss from IT Crowd and Swiss Tony from the fast show when it comes to the sales/technical ratio 😂
