No offence, but doing a few laps of the ring road at midnight, is not a comparable experience to running a car on track.

It’s also, frankly, childish.

Whole reason I'm now moving onto track stuff and have an instructor session booked at Curborough. :)

The use was a little bit more protracted than that and comfortably away from civilisation, but aye
 
It's not the calipers as such. It's the pad surface area. A bigger surface area doesn't wear as fast.

The older Wilwood like you had generally had quite a small surface area compared to most calipers, even OEM ones.

Larger surface area reduces the pressure and temperature and this reduces wear.

The newer Wilwood range Aero4/Aero6 are equal or larger than the equivalent AP Racing or Alcon pads. I'm actually looking at a set for my M3.

So don't buy ancient Wilwoods with tiny pads and strap them to your 200T, basically.

It's more matching the swept area of rotor and pad to suit the vehicle and what you're using it for.

And matching the piston area of the caliper to the master cylinder.

A lot of people put 4 or 6 piston calipers on but actually reduce the amount of braking force because the piston area is lower than the standard calipers. Bigger discs only make up for so much.
 
I ran CL RC6 after upgrading from the CL RC5+ @ Bedford 2 weeks ago & I was really impressed by them.

Gave me a lot more confidence. Bloody hated driving home with them though, 3.5 Hours of squealing on every roundabout :D
 
EBC RP1's are brilliant anyone who says otherwise hasn't tried them, or had shitty brake fluid or a massively undersized brake setup.

I've run 2500's, PBS, 1155's, Green/Yellow/Blue ebc and CL's over the years and the RP1's have wiped the floor with them all in terms of feel, fade resistance and life.

Rojer years ago I was of the opinion that rear brakes on things like Clio's did nothing, in fact I had a heated debate with @frayz about it however I was incredibly wrong! You need matching fronts and rears to maintain balance, the pedal and brake feel goes to absolute s**t if you're running road pads in the rear and something good at the front.

Also change your brake lines, not fucked old brake lines should be near the top of the list.

Glad the tyres worked well, I was going to txt you and ask.

To add I bought my 2nd set of RP1's recently, went to install to find my existing 6 track day old RP1's were just about half worn... changed nothing and did Cadwell, they are still perfect.

Plus 1500-2k of road use. Disks don't even look worn. I reckon thats pretty amazing.
 
They don't do RP1 for my standard caliper so it's either DS1.11 or Winmax W5. Both are highly rated, but I have heard the W5 have a crazy long life and better pedal feel. Probably go with 2500 in the rear.

You should not mix pad types at the rear unless you are deliberately trying to shift balance.

On the VX/Elise people do it deliberately sometimes to get more rear bias but it's a s**t fix as then the rear initially have more bite that the fronts when cold then go off faster than the fronts when hot.

DS2500 will be ok in the rear with DS1.11 in the front.

I run PBS rear and SR11 front.

I ran W5 in the Clio and would probably go W6 if had them again.

Have you run DS1.11 front and rear ever? Or are they not available for the rear?

I kind of get it on a 172/182 as they are so light at the rear some people say they can't get enough heat into the rears. On the Mini for the first track day I ran different pads and it was horrible.

Don't think you can get them for rears.

Pretty common to run a less aggressive pad in the rear on fwd cars.

Edit: just looked, you can get DS1.11 for the rears on a Megane.

I run ds1.11 front/2500 rear, no issues. Its a tried and tested combo on megane anyway.

I was going to run 1.11 rear but they werent available. Tbf i only run 2500 rear as the meganes wear the stock rears out fast as f**k.
 
Wonder if its worth trying the 1.11's on the rear now they are available?
Prob not worth the extra money. I only went for ds2500 rears due to doing in a stock set of rear pads to metal in half a day. Ive had 2 days out of ds2500 and still 3/4 left.

Ferodo are one of the most popular choices for the Renault Megane RS225 and R26. The DS2500 work as a great all-rounder for both fast road and light track use. The choice of avid trackday drivers is the Ferodo DS1.11 front brake pads with DS2500 rear pads but we think the rear can benefit by using DS1.11 on the rear as well when using a firm suspension setup which reduces weight transfer forward under braking.

Might be worth a punt i guess, ill wear this set out first.

Kangoo really needs uprated rears after the brief run round anglesey a few years ago. I cant get any rear pads and my planned rs rear brake setup is shelved. Might get a set of winmax rears made up for it in similar compound. Kev/kam racing said they will make custom pads.

Ill stick a post up about therears on my thread. Ive been trying to mock something up, but i feel it will soon excede my backyard engineering skills🤣

RST3/RS44 was a mint combo in the Megane tbf

Ran RST3/RSL29 on the M3 as well which was spot on
 
You don't need such an aggressive rear pad on them. Pretty much everyone runs a similar setup inc all the Schirmer builds. Milder rear pad just seems to be the go to as they are still front bias
