So far my master plan seems to be working:
Got some dielectric grease, and managed to get it into a 5ml syringe easily enough 💉
Will report back how this went...
Had a bit of luck with Eurocarparts this week.. needed a new alternator for the Clio and saw they were having a 60% sale this week (to be fair they’ve got a bloody sale on every week!!)
Entered the details of my Clio onto their website and they said they could get me a Lucas alternator for...
I've ordered a couple of small tubes of Dielectric grease, some syringes and needles.. My plan is to inject the grease into the female ferrules of the loom and not just dawb it all over to avoid any shorting or funny business.
Here's to hoping my car doesn't catch light the first time I connect...
Nothing ventured nothing gained I say!!! So today I finally got the engine back in the car - BY GOD there's not a lot of wriggle room in these engine bays is there?! 🤦♂️:D
First job was to give the front subframe a little wash down as it got quite dirty, from just sitting outside...
Been working thru the engine loom I got off @Mbeau that was in great condition to begin with, just wanted to go thru it all and clean/re-wrap it all in new softer insulation which I think looks better in the engine bay:
Also gave the exhaust manifold a little tickle with some high temp paint...
Finally got my Gearbox off Bloke aka Carl Wadeson after its 1 year holiday on the Wirral... 🤦♂️
Looks ok, I just hope the giblets look as good as the outside which has been blasted and re-painted. Hopefully I can get it all dropped back into the engine bay soon!
In preparation for the...
A truly epic car and such an in-depth and informative thread that’s a bloody gold mine of information on owning, maintaining and modifying a Clio 182!!
A real credit to you @Dr Jekyll
Stunning car and build thread @Niall 👍
I’ve had a very similar engine built by Carl aka Bloke over 2019. I’m delighted he did all the work for you before hIs recent and VERY public fall from grace.... Builds like yours are the reason I took my engine to him in Jan 2019 and eventually got it...
Here’s a few live ones I just took from my garage @Iain C :
engine bay is coming together, the Cooling system is going in at the moment:
Dashboard is in, but the roof lining is holding me up at the moment... currently waiting for my balls to grow enough to tackle it... 🤦🏼♂️
finished...
Yes, ☺️ It’s fair to say I have a Healthy Renault Obsession as I currently own:
2016 Megane MK4 GT
2007 Megane MK2 R26
2004 Clio 182 Cup
1991 5GT Turbo Raider
1987 11 Turbo Phase 2
On the subject of track etiquette... I found the day generally good, and my wife and I religiously let faster cars pass on the three straights as we were all instructed to do so.
So I’m still at a loss why some drivers were passing around corners... ??♂️
Great event as always though, thanks...
Following the sucess with the bulkhead heat shielding/soundproofing, I gave the bonnet matting a dose of the same treatment:
I could then get the wing, wheels and bonnet back on the car:
...before dragging it kicking and screaming out of the garage and back into the drab british winter...
Got the Steering Track Rod ends painted, assembled and back on the car, so I could again move the car:
And then got myself some new Power Assisted Steering pipe seals from Renault, and fitted one to the low pressure feed pipe, before fitting back to the car:
Thanks for reading :)
