I can confirm that the bracket guy at Renault was definitely working overtime when they designed this car!!! Christ on a bike 🙄 and I thought the 5GTT was over complicated in some areas…! 😆😆
Work continued to pull the engine bay apart today as I wanted to get the Aux belt tensioning bracket off...
One of the biggest challenges you’re going to have is finding the bump strip on the rear qtr that’s missing. They’re only specific to the phase 1 Clio’s and like rocking horse 💩!
Hope you find one of them in the boot??
Think Bedford Autodrome is a good shout as a suggestion??
Sadly I’m not going to be able to be there this year, off to Ireland 🍻🍻🍻 But I’m sure it will be a good do!
You can get a subframe off a standard MK1 Clio, but the Williams ones were double skinned apparently, so It wouldn't be identical. Best to try & re-fabricate yours.
You can see from the picture above, mine doesn't look too fresh! 👆
YEP! 😖
There's a surprising amount of MK1 clio's that seem to be coming up on Facebook Marketplace for sale.. depending on how much you need, I think you'd actually save money by buying one of those to strip for the parts for yours, rather than buying individually... if you have somewhere to...
I've ordered all of this lot, from these locations @Pikey009. Not all of it has turned up yet, but it's on it's way:
Sills both sides
Drivers Side -> https://www.carz2.co.uk/renault-clio-91-898--full-sill-even-number-driver96685-96685-p.asp
Passenger side ->...
Don't forget to do an @ before you quote anyone on here @Pikey009, it helps highlight to me and others that you've asked us a question, and stops us missing it! ;)
I know you will need the following for that car, as I've just ordered it all for mine:
Sills both sides
Drivers Side ->...
Great to see this car being saved @Pikey009 and will be fun to watch your progress as I’m running thru the same shenanigans with my Williams 2!!
As you mentioned I had a look at this cad when I was looking for one myself, it was a tad cold when I did 🥶
Subscribed to this thread for updates! 👌🏻
You need tissens:

Search their website for Williams.
Dismantling continues this evening, with the Aux belt coming off, and the alternator. Only had one bolt break on me so-far into the aluminium inlet manifold 😤
She keeps gently whispering in my ear words of encouragement to get stuck in though, especially when I have a look at the front panel...
Started to take the car apart tonight for the major service:
There’s a lot of grime & surface rust present, but everything’s coming apart alright, nothings broken off at all!!
Front drivers headlight removed to expose the belts, which seem really loose. I know there’s something about the...
Thought I heard Rockingham was back to being a track??
TBH whilst it’s nice to hire a track, it’s bloody expensive and a lot of effort. Hiring a field to just get together would be fine with me (as long as there was a B&B nearby 😆 )
Nipped up town for a spot of lunch today and took the Clio Williams, couldn’t resist a photo when we parked up:
After lunch, I cajoled my wife Sarah into giving the car a drive for the first time. You know how it goes guys with your wives/partners 🙄:
“The clutch is too heavy”
“The brake...

Originality wasn’t perhaps the best word I could have chose, it’s the history of this car I like.
I quite like the fact that this little Williams’ journey through multiple owners has resulted in modifications and makes it part of what it is. For sure I could go for a bone stock OE restoration...
Nothing I like more than a challenge… :unsure:
As I mentioned before, the strut tops in the engine bay are drilled for a strut brace that was previously fitted to the car:
I would usually look to get the strut tops welded and the holes filled in, but I like the originality of this car, so...
Following the saga of the drivers door, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to get hold of the minty door off a low mile breaker at a yard in Bury St Edmunds, so dashed over there and grabbed it:
So I’ve now got BOTH doors from that car, which should put me in good stead for the rebuild of this...
Drivers door is suffering from the usual Renault dropped door syndrome.. 🙄 so I bought a pair of new hinge and bushes from CGB in Telford:
Just a case of whipping the old hinge pins out, and replacing with the new stuff..
WHY DO I KID MYSELF THESE JOBS WILL BE THIS EASY…!??? 🙄
Of course, the...
Wanted to improve the way the roof trim and upper door gasket was fitted to the car, they weren’t quite sitting right:
Whipped the door seal off, and sourced some new clips from eBay:
The reason it wasn’t quite sitting right was a combination of rusting metal substrate within the seal, and...
