    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

The weather forecast for Zandvoort the day before the trackday was so bad, that I decided to skip it. So instead, I made a start with this. :) At the moment I am waiting for some aluminium to arrive to make the brackets. So I continued with my lightweight battery. Made a battery tray for...

    Which gear linkage kit?

I can't comment on the PMS one, but I have the Scenic shifter with Yanoo stiff shift kit, and it's very direct.

    Moving gearshift rearward

Saves you a lot of work.

    Moving gearshift rearward

I've thought about this as well, but I just used a Scenic shifter, and bend the shaft about 45 degrees. Now it is in the perfect position with my deep dish steering wheel, and my seat mounted as far back as possible. Check my build thread for pictures.

    Custom tubular turbo manifold Fab

Always good to see people fabricating there own stuff. Even if it doesn't look as good as the hightech stuff, in my opinion it's worth 10 times more than the purchase price of some fancy of the shelf parts.

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

I've received my new brake pads, very much interested in the performance of these. :) Next trackday is Zandvoort this Friday, hoping for decent weather.

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

I think I'll try both settings at the next trackday if I can bring the thermometer, and I have dry conditions.

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

Ok. How does lowering the pressure help reducing wear on the outside? Now I'm confused, especially when earlier in this thread it's been discussed to raise the preasure. I do have a cage, but I still feel very novice about tyres, hence this thread. I'd like to go to slicks in the future, but my...

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

@1985michael182 Good posting. The car is kept dry in a garage, and is only washed prior to a trackday, to keep the disc rusting to a minimum. I haven't got any wheel spacers. I drive a 7x15 ET35 or 37 wheel. But I haven't got a clue what scrub radius is. Can you explain? Suspension is BC...

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

I understand it will improve turn in, but will it also reduce the wear on the outer edge of my tyres? And 12 mins total doesn't seem that much more than my current 8 mins total. I can't really see it making that much difference?

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

I've got toe out, it's just not that much, 4 mins. But will another 4 mins or something like that make such a difference?

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

I've already been in contact with you. It was me asking about the lead time for the Ferodo DS1.11 pads. Just waiting for a friends reply to see if we combine an order. But what do you mean with 'pretty good considering the caliper'?

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

That's what I plan on doing next trackday. Maby add a little more camber at the next time of needs alignment. I have the Cup wishbones in my garage waiting to add more caster. I will look into these when my current tyres are worn out. Getting curious now, as you're saying the're night and day...

Tyre and brake pad issues. Are they related?

I guess I could borrow one at work. So the blue lines is nothing to worry about? And wear like this is normal? You can clearly see in the first picture that the thread in the blue area is almost gone. So basically I've reached the limit of the tyre? My plan always was to work my way up with...

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

When I wanted to refresh my brake fluid, I noticed my tyre have excessive wear on the outsides, and they are colored blue. What does this mean? And how do I solve it? Do I need to change my tracking? Currently it's like this. The top one is camber, then caster, then toe. Hot tyre...

Today I finally installed my Clubsport brakes on the GTI. Quite the difference I can tell you, not only in appearance, but also in stopping power. Pretty happy with these. :) Before: After:

Small update. I couldn't really tighten my left mirror because the mirror shaft would pop out. As a result the mirror was hanging when I hit a curb. Because I think these mirrors are original Clio cup ones, parts for these will be pretty hard to find. So I had to make my own.

Big gay wings, do they really work on track?

Will you do any testing to see the difference, and have you thought about how to do this?

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

Been to Assen again today. Had a great day. My wife came along for the day, and I met up with a friend, and a colleague also came by. I did 5 sessions, the first one was mixed with getting a bit used to the car again, a bit of rain, and a bit code 60. In the 2nd, 3th and 4th session I was able...

So it was finally time to get this thing and myself back on track. I set the deadline at Jully the 19th, and I made it. So there we were, back at Zandvoort. Can't say I wasn't a bit nervous, as I didn't drive on track for half a year, and also because I didn't know how the car would perform...

Well, the cage build is done. I spend a lot of hours to get this done, but I am quite pleased with the result, to say the least. Now that I'm done, it's time to make up the numbers. Offcourse I weighed everything, and although I added nearly 75 kg's of steel, the car has only gained 12 kg's in...
