Is the pump making noise? Do you have a way you can get the car on stands to turn the wheel all the way to the end of its travel and put stress on the pump? You can do this on the ground but its just more stress on the rack, perhaps do it on grass or gravel if near enough.
Ive been having a read and a TRW electric pump from some vauxhalls is exactly the same as used or once used on porsche cup cars, quite a few guys do this conversion from mechanical pump to electrical on their porsches. The nice thing about it is that its a simple power, ground and 12v ignition...
Well thats the bit I dont know yet o_O Its a power and earth then theres another connector, Im not sure what has to be done for it. Hooked up to a speed or steering angle sensor maybe.
Yeah it looks convenient, just want to make sure its going to be 100% before I splash out.
Im sure it will be fine, modern pumps driving heavy cars should be more than up to the job
@bozothenutter What electric pas pump did you fit and is the assistance the same?
Ive found a dacia pump made by renault brand new from a heavier car which Im interested in, Im just worried that there will be a delay with assistance.
Ive made up custom lines all with quick disconnects that cost (f**king lots) to minimise as much pain as possible for check ups and dismantling! Then theres the machining that needs doing as well.. All worth it though o_O😄
Ive bought that one a couple times a while back, first time was good then second time were ever so slightly different, will work but not as good. You need 2 of these for the rack, they are the best ones...
Post the link?
Im not to sure if they are the same, they could be if they are the same turns lock to lock. Some non sports are the same you can get lucky.
Id be surprised if something failed within the pinion at 30k miles. There are a few seals that could go though. I just took a pinion completely apart and there was a large rust/dirt spot at the bottom of the torsion bar so they can get really dirty where you wouldnt expect it.
Hopefully the new...
It could be that the force required to turn without pas (engine off) 'levered' the shaft and and made a slight hole to let fluid out, these racks arnt a good design and the shaft can move a lot without much force.
Inspect it first, is it obviously torn/damaged? Is the garter spring seated inside the seal or has it come out?
To remove you need to hit it from the other side, using a punch or screwdriver with hammer, it can take quite a bit of effort to remove.
No problem. Its a strange problem thats for sure, another that will get me thinking for a while 😄
Well that depends, since you said fluid leaked from both ends Id be worried it would leak again if I didnt change it. Do you have any other pictures?
For tie rods I just use a 32mm spanner...
When I did mine It didnt take much force to twist it off once I had ripped the leather around it, thought there must be a way to salvage them like putting some drops of acetone or the likes to loosen up the glue.
Use circlip pliers. You turn that way in red until the clip end appears, then pry it out and turn other way (this is how I do it on rhd rack) Make sure the shaft is fully in so you dont scratch it. The end cap might not come out on its own and you will have to remove the shaft all together...
I would go to an electric pump if I knew 100% they would work like a mechanical. I read that the pump used on some porsche motorsport cars is the same as on some vauxhalls and cheap off ebay.
Just discovered this and wont settle until I have it. Seemingly just a bracket, coupler and a couple of o rings, or is it a different camshaft design? Could this be made from scratch without much effort? (would it cost a reasonable amount for someone to make this)
