The problem in my case was the o-ring which seals the fuel line into the fuel rail. It was damaged which meant I didn't have adequate fuel pressure when accelerating. I put a new o-ring on and it solved it immediately!
I reckon if it was a dodgy fuel filter the problem would occur throughout the rev range. I imagine it's a problem with the ignition system. I had a similar problem and it was an injector. When you took the plugs out, were they all the same colour? Nice light brown? You can check the injectors by...
Ye I think you're advised to have a pad behind the head rest to limit the total amount of flex. We've had them without that though in the passenger seat of a Caterham and never had any issues with strength so I reckon they're pretty solid. We're about to fit a cage and I feel like I need to...
Got the car back today. Electrical fault was the short circuit between map sensor and ECU. Very happy with the work done.
Sadly the car now has a regular misfire. Took it home to have more of a look. One spark plug is black which I'm putting down to a faulty injector. I'm happy with the work...
I'm going to try my nearest specialist (rentec) in the morning and see if they can take a look. There was a dribble of oil in spark plug 1's hole (counting from the gearbox end). Probably a dogdy cam cover gasket, not enough that I'd expect any issues though.
Hi Ginger tosser,
Sorry couldn't resist! It's a misfire under load problem. Car has been sitting with the engine out since September, it went in the other day. Ran perfectly. Once I was happy that everything was running as it should, rev'd it a bit higher and the car misfired then cut out...
Hi all,
Long shot but I'll ask. We're getting the car ready for this season's racing and I've got an unknown electrical issue. It started tonight and I reckon it's one of the following:
Coil pack
HT leads
Plugs
MAP sensor
Lambda sensor
I've plugged a fault reader in but no codes are showing...
I was looking at mine tonight and found that a rubber o ring on the fuel line connection to the fuel rail had perished and was leaking. I replaced the o ring and it sorted the problem right out! I reckon the hesitation was due to there being insufficient fuel pressure to feed the injectors...
I'm often just getting a click when I try and start the car. This is solved by a jump lead from the battery negative to the end of the starter motor - with this on it fires straight up! Anyone else had this issue and come up with a good fix? If not I'll run a new wire from the battery negative...
It's not the throttle body. Definately an electric motor spinning. I've taken a video in case anyone has any ideas?

Cheers for the help!
Hello all,
Any thoughts much appreciated!
Just put the engine back in the car and connected everything up.
But, as soon as I connect the battery, what sounds like an electric motor starts up. This is before the ignition is turned on. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine...
It's on 114,000 miles now and still going strong. Me and my wife use it for hill climbs and sprints across Scotland. It'll be entered into both championships this year. We took it apart over the winter and rebuilt several bits. The engine went in last night and started up first time with no...
Hello mate,
I have your old car, thought you might be interested to hear how it's getting on! Let me know if you get this, I'll send you some details!
Cheers,
Peter
I'm looking for recommendations from the CS committee please!
The car is used for hillclimbs and driving to / from events. It's on 110k miles. What fluids would you recommend and where would you buy them from?
Thanks in advance!
I think this is done regularly on the F4R engine and I've had it on mine. Folk call it "matched inlets". There's often upper and lower inlets which have been matched in the parts for sale section for around £100 if I remember correctly.
