Without wanting to sound like a doom monger at worst case it could be something one of the belts goes arround is on its way out. Say water pump or a tensioner etc. Premature failiure of this sort is not unheard of. (I had my cam belt & tensioners / pulleys) replaced (MK1).
As youve already...

Hmm, would appear I was rinsed ! This was Lookers in Stockport. Will have to give the price match idea a try ! Didnt even ring the others as they are all a bit of a pain to get to / drop the car off / get back etc. But £75 aint to be sniffed at !

My 12K service for the 172 came to £195 pounds in total at my local Renault dealer.
If you have more than one main dealer close enough shop arround as prices do vary.
Its not been mentioned yet fully (and is more for the other posters than the topic starter) perhaps everyones confident it isnt but what about road camber. Mine pulls to the left on a normal road but put it on the works car park and its as straight as a die. Ive found both my clios to be very...

This takes me back ! (your reg doesnt end ETR does it !) anyways, my 95 16v was exactly the same towards the end.
The remote started to only work at very close range (like you say from inside the car) due to water ingress, then one day gave up the ghost completely ! I took the sensor PCB out...
Sorry Adi, must admit I mis-read some of the posts, I thought you were deciding weather to buy an Alpine head unit. Realising youve actualy got one my post is of no use ! Hope you can sort it though, remote control is handy.
I had a Sony adaptor in my 95 16v (still have it if anyone wants to buy it, digs it out of cupboard, its a PC9-101).
It has one connector for the head unt and another for the original remote connector. There is enough room behind the HU to leave it there, its a doddle to fit (replying to adis...

Hi Joe,
yes they are fantastic devices. Ive been using the 16F873, so basically the same chip, mainly because of the uart for RS232 stuff. I use Microchips MPLAB/MPASM but agree doing maths is the fiddliest bit ! Anyway you should be able to message me and we can swap more mad scientist type...

Hi Joe, what sort of pic are you using ? Ive done plenty of projects in assembler, you might be a PIC guru (in the same way you are an engine guru !:D) but let me know if I can lend a hand anytime !
Jonathan.

To coin a phrase there all like that as in mega stiff. After a week you wont notice but drive a different car and get back in the valver and youl swear theres something very wrong.
My 95 16v was
