If you're doing top mounts and don't have an impact gun make sure you have an offset 21mm spanner, as quite a few of the kits I've seen don't have a 21mm in them and a few extra allen keys or hex bits of the same diameter. Also remember to break the top mount nuts free whilst the car is still on...
Hopefully it's still useable then! Possibly matched, it came with a car but with a standard rs lower inlet, supposedly cat cam valve springs and uprated valves but no invoices to prove it.
A 172 I just purchased has come with a rebuilt cylinder head but the mating face has some damage. The photos do make the damage look worse. I've read that these engines don't particularly like cylinder heads being skimmed.
Is there an overall height they can't go below or any other way of...
hopefully it's not too rotten and can be saved, it's only about 45 mins from shrewsbury at the moment, and been on axle stands for the past two years, in quite a few pieces at the moment, but everything seems to be there to put it back together.
Just put a deposit down on 119, non runner, aux belt failure and appears to be quite rotten will know more when i get it delivered this evening or tomorrow
Cheers for your replies guys, I'll take another go at setting it up and see if i can improve it anymore.
for people who have them, mines the new style carbon if it makes a difference, see if the collar on the bottom of the shifter hits and runs along the lockout plate for 1st and 2nd?
I've recently installed a pms shifter and having problems with first and second gear. It's mainly going into second that's the problem, then it won't go straight back into first from second. All other gears and reverse select fine.
Going into second from first It feels as if the lever is going...
You can remove the gearbox out the top without removing the engine. when i did mine i still had to lower the subframe slightly though. It is probably easier out the bottom as from the top you have to remove a lot of extra stuff to get enough space, coolant lines, wiring etc. I ended up removing...
Does that mean we finally get to see what's under that stitched on wheel cover? The amount of times I was tempted to take it off but didn't want to be left with a peeling steering wheel.
If you're planning on selling the old dampers I might be tempted as they hadn't done many miles when I sold...

This should be the one, make sure it's got the bigger M12 holes.
I would personally go for the lemforder one even though they are more expensive.
Glad to see this getting some love it deserved, as stated this was a great daily, was actually really compliant over bumps yet firm enough to really enjoy it when you got the chance, although the new daily is more comfortable it's just nowhere near as fun. I really miss this and starting to keep...
Just an update on mine as it might help, took mine apart again new circlip is already damaged then was greeted by this once the cup part was removed.
Looks like the teeth have stripped off the other side. Might help you out.
Following as mine does similar, mine is the circlip diff though, lost the circlip the other night, with a proper violent bang, so much it shut the engine off and wouldn't start for 5 minuets. Changed the circlip and restored drive, but try and pull away or with steering, starts knocking loud and...
Hi does any one know the size and grade of the bolts for the front dampers to the hubs, i think they're m14 but unsure of length and grade, also are they fully threaded or just partially threaded? Thanks
yep that was my thinking as well, 5mm slip on on the front and 10mm stub axle on the rear if i decide to, can't see how the wheels look in the arches when I'm driving it anyway.
I dont want to run turinis. 15" wheels are so much better on these, hence why thinking i could get away with it as with 16mm spacers on f1's would be the same as running 11mm on turinis due to the difference in offset
Thinking of getting some spacers for my 172 cup, currently on ph1 oz f1 which are et43 compared to et38 of cup turinis, if i run 16mm hubcentric spacers on the front i'd be 11mm wider than on the turinis, how much of an effect would this have on the scrub radius. Ideally I'd want 10mm spacers...
