Afternoon gents,
I am currently doing an engine rebuild, just a bit of peice if mind next year for the track more than anything else.
Possible spec: bottom end rebuild, ported head, matched inlets and 197 cams.
I am looking at replacing.
Main bearings
Big end bearings
Thrust washers...
There's so much knowledge and so many good blokes on this site, who are open to telling you which is the best direction to go down. I have built a 172 from scratch replacing pretty much everything, and then found myself coming full circle back to a standard engine 197 cams and port matched...
That's enough on the bricks and motor... Back to the car itself.
Decided to see what state the pistons were in next. And set about de coaking them.

Conrod gudgeon pin and piston all removed for cleaning.

In other news.... The funds I saved up for the engine mods and gripper duff have been spunked on replacing the underfloor heating and new boiler in my house.
Managed to do all the electrical work myself but still set me back the best part of 6k.

@NorthloopCup how do you work that one out mate? Is it due to the oil holes in the crank? Surely the best way would be to get tanged and better bearings? Or just try my luck with OE Bearings.
Next up was stripping down the cylinder head 1st removed the cams cover and tappets springs valves.
Next up was removing the oil stem seals these proved to be a little tricky but got there eventually.
Then I set about starting to clean the cylinder head ports and Chambers.

Jesus it's been way to long.... So an update is needed. Basically had a pi g hard think about what I want to do with the rebuild. The plan of attack is to use it at my local track Llandow as work commitments have been far to much these last 2 years.
So here goes anyway.

@NorthloopCup crwnk measured with a micrometer and all within tolerances. No deep scoring or pitting anyway, just a few dull shiny marks on the surface. I'm going to get it nicely polished up. Any pros to running King Bearings for a standard build? Probably get some cams and port matched inlets...

Only thing that worries is I've heard these engine can have dramas with spinning the 3rd bearing and I'm also hoping when I measure the crank end float the thrust washers I can use are...

Looking at doing an engine refresh, ready for reliability on track.
Where can I find the tolerances for bores, bearings, crankshaft and piston rings.

Wes mate was looking for advice on what standard stuff you use really. I've done a bit of research on Pure motorsport, engine dynamics and renault parts direct websites.
Evening gents. No not replaced rods and pistons. It's all pretty much standard stuff. Just gonna be doing a bit of track this year and want a bit of reliability l. So was things new conrod bearings, new main bearings, big end bearings, thrust washers, ported head with matching ported inlets, 182...
In awe of this build. Personally for me I think you've done a cracking job, looks so so clean. Hats odd to you mate. Don't suppose you have the torque specs/ tolerances for an engine rebuild do you? I'm currently sourcing all the bits and peices to do it in October

Looking at doing a full engine refresh in October and would like some advice on the following.
What micrometers are you all using I've read up a bit and one's seem to give 0.1mm accuracy and others 0.05mm accuracy. All I'm gonna be doing is a full engine strip down...
The problem seems to be the connector under the UCH. Large white one with push in clips either side. As soon as you touch it, clicking noises appear in the UCH. I will check all of the above. Cheers for the help.
@STEVE.M cheers for the help mate. I believe it's the connector underneath the UCH. It's seemed tight and the loom seemed a bit stretched. I'm no guru in wiring, but understand diagrams etc. UCH seemed to be clicking intermittently

After some advice. I have recently Converted a 1.6 k4m track car into a F4r 2.0. Upon starting the car it turns over imobiliser light goes out but doesn't seem to fire up. I have a feeling its relay related. Replaced all spark plugs and I believe coil pack and leads are good. Checked...
Same dramas as you mate. Mine are so tight it' unreal. Be happy to here how you get on with them. Product seems good quality however way to tight in my opinion.
@Pauleds What size braided fittings did you use? couldn't write a quick parts list could you.
im a bit confused as what sizes to use from the master cylinder and hydraulic handbrake. cheers mate

What can I remove?
I am guessing.
Stereo wiring
Airbags
Speakers
Electric doors and mirrors
Any problems to be encountered whilst removing any of this ?
