What Spring rates are yours?
On track fully hard on the rear, 5 clicks back from fully hard on the front.
On the road, 5 clicks up from fully soft front and back bring back some compliance....I only use mine on the road driving to and from trackdays/testing though!
PMS are a bit pricey so I think either of the above sound good....dare I say it but ktec seem to do their stickered up vibratechnics cheaper than I've seen anywhere else!
Thinking about treating the track car to new engine mounts, any experiences of what's best to go for....purely a track car.
Vibratechnics or PMS I guess are the main options?
Those springs won't be causing the bump steer mate. 5kg isn't even a stiff spring as they go track car wise!
What issues/symptoms have you had?
Geometry as said is the likely cause.
I phoned BC direct earlier in the year when I was looking to change spring rates, there's plenty of options available for the front coilovers as you'd expect but as the rear springs are in the oe position they're progressive not like a coilover spring and he told me it was too expensive to make...
I run the BC's on my track car, 8kg front 8kg rear (you can only have an 8kg rear spring though, and it equates to half that as it sits in the original 'inboard' position).
Great suspension kit for the money imo, really well designed/made. If they offered a proper coilover rear they would be...
Very true, good point and not surprising really I suppose with those turbo's.....have to be honest I love a 4(or 5) cylinder high boost engjne, that will sound epic.
Will give some in the back when the needle swings round to 2 bar lol, surely 600bhp is on the cards? ☺️
With clear track in front of you, on decent tyres you should be able to go through them in 3rd and still pull reasonably well out the other side.....is just a matter of building up confidence and going into them carrying more speed! If you can pedal a bit it's amazing how many people you'll...
Never had a problem getting gears with my standard shifter but first time out with PMS shifter at spring action day at combe it made a nice difference....feels really nice to use on track!
Shouldn't be needing 2nd gear anywhere at combe though, unless you've caught up someone slow
The original seat mounting points/holes are also reinforced and looked a lot stronger than the thin metal of the tunnel....I'm sure either way will be fine, see quite a few race cars with the spreader plates welded inside the car too.
Are they not asymmetric (I.e not directional, but marked with 'outside' on the tyres.....means they can go on any corner).
The new r888r's are the same!
I used the harness eyelets/spreader plates as the rear seat subframe bolt (the one next to the hold in your first pic). Worked well and could fit the whole spreader plate underneath that way.
Had 23mm chopped off of both subframes on the door side and re welded back together, didn't want to be packing out a seat mount ....God knows why OMP haven't corrected the issue.
How long ago was that?
Only bought it last year to get back into trackdays, been a great little car so far but wasn't quite as well prepared as I'd hoped so ended up replacing/upgrading pretty much everything but the engine (which seems sweet)!
Ahh yeah I remember seeing you all there with the two clios, that grey one looks awesome and really nicely done
Enjoyed that day actually, pity they're not going to be doing them any more!
Oh is it! Small world and all that eh...how long ago did you own it?
Done a fair bit to it since I got it last year tbh, and yeah I was at Hullavington! What were you there in, should have said hello
I have a set of both pro race and 2118....the 2118's with road tyres (ps3's) and the pro race with track tyres (r888r's). Surprised how much heavier the 2118's are, I'd be inclined to go for another set of pro race just because of the price difference but I liked both wheels haha!
2118's are in...
Got a gripper diff box to go in mine next week, was hoping I wouldn't have the driveshaft issues I've read about.....was told they'd redesigned the diff to stop the shaft bottoming out issue? Mine's a 182 so don't know if that makes a difference!?
I've got a set of the newer r888r's to try for this year.....saw the new nankangs at Autosport, did well on the 'nail test' lol, be interesting to see how they're priced.
Lol the curse of being the forum gearbox guru mate ;) !!!
All the cool little bits and attention to detail add up to being a really impressive build mate, look forward to seeing it finished
Dave
Thanks for the heads up mate, I'll see if I can find out why the shaft should need changing....I'm guessing others have done it (whoever told you about it)?! Is the shorter shaft just a fit and forget thing, trying to think what other impacts it would have running a shorter drive shaft!!
How...
Just been reading through your thread, cracking example of a properly built track car....love it, as clean as I'd like mine to be (who am I kidding)!!
Spotted the above and caught my eye as I'm currently having a gripper'd box built, do the driveshafts have to be changed when running the diff...
