Jam the brake pedal on mate, that's what I did along with cable tying a rubber glove finger over each line to stop dirt and dust fouling them.

My only experience of asking if someone wants to sell something that isn't actually for sale was met with a pretty abrupt reaction. I get it if you're constantly being asked it would become annoying but this was a rusty old farm cart turntable only just visible in the brambles, still there now...
