I thought about going on to ebay.com buying a 12 month from there for $40 which is £25. but dont know if it would work on uk xboxs.

I paid £25 from microsoft for 12 months and 500 points last time but that was because it was a christmas deal, so ideally renew it at christmas. :)

When I did mine I didnt glue it back on, just pushed it back into position and it got a good hold.
