    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about with it being too loud or boomy. In fact it’s not boomy at all; it’s just metallic-raspy. My car is completely stripped, has ITB’s, is de-cat’ed and has the straight-through middle-section and its fine. Like I say it’s a bit OTT for a daily driver but...

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

Well I’ve had the straight-through middle section on now for a couple of weeks and IMO it sounds great, its not boomy on the motorway but admittedly is a bit OTT for pootling around town, but since its on a track-car it doesn’t matter. It pops and bangs and sounds really raspy. It recorded...

    EBC Yellowstuf pads

I've never been a fan of EBC, if it’s for the track then go for a set of Carbone Loraine RC6's they're fantastic.

    Mintex F4R Pads

Mark took the Clio out for a good drive and actually thought the 1166’s performed well so recommended not to bother with the F4R’s after all (saved me £180 too!!). The last two times I’ve been on track have been raining so perhaps I wasn’t getting them hot enough. I’m at Brands tomorrow so...

    Clio 100w halogen headlights ?

Take a look at the PIAA bulbs; they’re fairly pricey but great quality. They draw 55w and produce 110w, from memory they have even more powerful versions. I’ve used them on all our non-xenon cars and have them in the Clio.

    Alloy wheel refurbishment/powdercoating in herts/essex

Ideal for you is The Wheel Specialist in Edmonton, I’ve had a few wheel sets done there and they always do a fantastic job. They take the tyre off, blast, repair if need be then powder-coat and rebalance etc. I've tried a few others in the past and now wouldn’t go anywhere other than to The...

    Mintex F4R Pads

Thanks Mike, I’ll find out where Mark is getting the F4R pads from when I collect my car Saturday morning, I'll also collect the 'old' 1166 pads and measure them properly using digital callipers. Will let you know both at some point over the weekend. (Just to confirm – the 1166’s are out of my...

    Mintex F4R Pads

….it feels like a 1st date! Hi Mike, Mine’s Mark (I earnt my nickname many years ago when coming into work on a Monday morning a bit worse for wear after a weekend of partying). Did you mean where Mark gets the pads from or that you were interested in my 1166’s?

    Mintex F4R Pads

(Firstly thanks to Owen for adding the lines to my post - not sure why I can t do it my end?) Dan, I think I had the pads in already but lightly used when I fitted the slightly bigger 295mm AP Racing discs, gave them a proper bedding-in session. Either way the F4R's should do the trick and Mark...

    Mintex F4R Pads

Thanks guys. I haven’t been too impressed with the 1166's, nothing especially wrong with them but just don’t have the bite I was expecting. I'd like something similar to the RC6 compound I had in the standard calipers. The car is having a few bits done at Mark Fish Motorsport and I mentioned...

    Mintex F4R Pads

Mark Fish is popping a set in my Willwoods while it’s with him, apparently these are proper full-on race pads, anyone else had any experience of them?

    RBF600 or ATE Super Blue?

....or RBF660 if its mostly a track car, would need a fluid change every year but worth it for the extra 'performance'.

    mmmmm, torque :)

Good figures, Matt's a genius. We messed around with longer trumpets on mine so have a little more torque at 175ftlb - but less power at 202bhp because of not having the cams (yet!).

    Wing mirror covers

Yes and my advice would be not to wrap them. They are a complete bugger to wrap as there are so many curves in all directions and trying to get the vinyl to stretch around them all is almost impossible. (The roof, spoiler and side-strips all turned out perfect.) I did manage after 3 hours...

    Need some decent PC Speakers..

If funds allow, go for the Bose Companion 3 speakers, I’ve got these and they're great, not hi-fi top-end quality but for £200 playing iTunes they're really good quality. Plus you don’t need a sound-card which saves say £50.

Lovely car (and house), I think black wheels would realy suit it and tie in with the bumpers.

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

Not me Dan, don’t know you or your garage. I'm no mechanic therefore am just thinking of all the different permeations of cat/middle-silencer/rear-silencer. I know its subjective, but as mentioned before my car just isn't boomey and all I have is the rear-silencer. It actually sounds less...

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

So could keeping the cat on actually contribute towards the boom? Whereas I’ve taken mine off and it’s not boomy, just raspy.

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

I had a 350Z a few years ago with a Nismo exhaust and it sounded fantastic, I popped a set of sports-cats on and it ruined it, it totally changed the ‘type’ of sound – so I took them off. Just goes to show that just changing the OEM cats to aftermarket sports-cats can make such a difference...

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

I don’t have a cat or the centre silencer and its not THAT loud, I admit it might be a bit much on a daily driver but I think it sounds pretty great. I was dreading it sounding boomy or droney but actually it sounds race-car raspy. Now don’t anyone think for one minute that I’m suggesting I...

    Good wet track day tyre

Logically your brain would say they should be rubbish in the wet as they’re almost a semi-slick but like I say surprisingly they’re actually great, you can still feel when they’re up to temperature – and when they’re too hot!! and the braking is still great. This might sound like an...

    Stealth vs. Supersport Stealth

Well I fitted the straight-through middle section and yes it’s a bit louder, but not too much and its not boomy louder, more of a metallic raspy louder and it pops and bangs a lot more now which childishly sounds great. All in all am pleased with the result.

    Good wet track day tyre

888’s are fantastic in the wet, I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t tried them - Last two times at Brands it was biblically raining and I kept the 888’s on and they were brilliant, I has so much confidence with them on and was lapping an R8. I wouldn’t want to use them hard on the road in...

Bits in final coat of satin black

It all came good in the end, rubbed them down with 2000 and applied a couple more coats. The end result is surprisingly spot-on, no bits or imperfections, actually looks body-shop quality. I'm really chuffed with the end result.

I think the problem is that I'm painting them in the garage and therefore there are the odd bits of dust etc in the air.

Bits in final coat of satin black

I’ve sprayed my door side-strips satin black. I took my time and sanded them, applied a few coats of primer, let them dry for 24 hours then rubbed down with 2000 paper then a few coats of satin black, again let them dry and then sanded down with 2000 and then a final couple more coats of satin...
