Mintex F4R Pads

  220 Trophy
Mark Fish is popping a set in my Willwoods while it’s with him, apparently these are proper full-on race pads, anyone else had any experience of them?

  220 Trophy
Thanks guys. I haven’t been too impressed with the 1166's, nothing especially wrong with them but just don’t have the bite I was expecting. I'd like something similar to the RC6 compound I had in the standard calipers.
The car is having a few bits done at Mark Fish Motorsport and I mentioned the pads and he recommended the F4R's, apparently they squeal a lot which is'nt a problem on track but they should be up to the job. Here’s the blurb on the different grades:

Mintex F Series Racing Friction Composites
The F Series of composites were designed to outperform all existing racing compounds sold on the market today. Driver friendly pedal control and feedback, superior disc finish and long pad life even under the highest temperature applications are attributed engineered into each of the 'F' series compounds.

Mintex F1R
Designed from the outset to give uncompromising High Torque with a level of control not found in racing friction sold to date. F1R will allow the highest levels of decleration with an ability to feel and control impending wheel lock up. This broad threshold has allowed braking zones to be extended further into the apex then has ever been previously possible. In addition to the unparalleled degree of feedback, F1R also delivers superior disc conditioning that translates into superior pad life compared with any of our competitors high friction materials.Race Proven in CART, applications should be high downforce, high mechanical grip applications to include CART, LMP, WSC, F3, Indy Lights etc.

Mintex F2R
Derived from the F1R compound, F2R offers the same broad threshold pedal feel and control but with less torque. Less torque does not equate to less power as F2R was formulated for those classes having high-speed, high-horsepower cars that do not derive high grip levels through aerodynamic downforce. The user can expect superior pedal feel with outstanding disc finish and exceptional pad life in operating temperatures found in the highest forms of racing. Race Proven in NASCAR applications will include NASCAR, Touring Car, Late Model, Trans Am, F-3, F-Atlantic etc.

Mintex F4R
The F4R compound is slightly lower in overall friction to the F2R. It is however very easy to bed and is very user friendly making it suitable for club racing and light vehicle application. Fade resistant at temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees C. F4R offers a high level of pedal feel, high overall friction and stability over a broad range of temperatures with long pad life. Sedan, Saloon, Showroom stock, Light open wheel, Late model, Sport racing and Group N.

Mintex F6R
Mintex F6R was formulated to address specific applications needing medium to low torque with a high temperature threshold. These applications are almost all rear axle applications for front wheel drive and for live axle rear wheel drive applications. High heat tolerances with consistent repeatability were the two major requirements for this formulation. NASACAR, Endurance racing, Group N, Touring Cars etc.

(I can’t ever seem to put new lines in on this site, it just ends up as one long paragraph?!)

Just a thought, did you fit new disks with the 1166 pads? If you didn't they won't have worked to full potential. 1166's are really aggressive so I'm surprised you found them lacking in bite. However the F4's will be a step up, but they're definitely more progressive to use than CL RC6's

Be interested to see how you get on actually. Any ideas where Mark gets the pads from for your calipers? I think 1166s are ok, although I've not used them in the wilwood calipers...which is what I'd like to do next

(Firstly thanks to Owen for adding the lines to my post - not sure why I can t do it my end?) Dan, I think I had the pads in already but lightly used when I fitted the slightly bigger 295mm AP Racing discs, gave them a proper bedding-in session. Either way the F4R's should do the trick and Mark is going to bed them in for me as he gives the car a shake down following the other work. Silent_Scone (what’s your name?), I think Mark had got a set in for another customer who didn’t use them in the end, I think he has them made up especially for the Willwoods, I’ll ask where he gets them from when I see him on Saturday. If you're interested in my only very partly-worn (I’ll measure properly) 1166's then let me know.

Cheers mate, It's Mike btw. (Yours is? LOL )I'd appreciate that :) Just drop me a pm
….it feels like a 1st date! Hi Mike, Mine’s Mark (I earnt my nickname many years ago when coming into work on a Monday morning a bit worse for wear after a weekend of partying). Did you mean where Mark gets the pads from or that you were interested in my 1166’s?

Thanks Mike, I’ll find out where Mark is getting the F4R pads from when I collect my car Saturday morning, I'll also collect the 'old' 1166 pads and measure them properly using digital callipers. Will let you know both at some point over the weekend. (Just to confirm – the 1166’s are out of my Willwoods, not sure if we’ve got crossed-wires)

The come direct from the Mintex distributor. As I said before, we fitted some years ago in Wilwood fitment, they're easily available usually

Mark took the Clio out for a good drive and actually thought the 1166’s performed well so recommended not to bother with the F4R’s after all (saved me £180 too!!). The last two times I’ve been on track have been raining so perhaps I wasn’t getting them hot enough. I’m at Brands tomorrow so hopefully the rain will hold off and I can test them out in the dry. (So for the time being the 1166’s are not for sale.)
