Warehouse express.... but...
Jessop Prices:
D60 18-55 VR £379.99
D5000 18-55 VR £799.99
D90 18-105 VR £799.99
The D5000 needs to come down a fair bit to fit between the 60 and 90.
^^ not at the moment:
Nikon D90 with 18-105mm ED VR Lens £759.99
Nikon D5000 Digital SLR plus 18-105mm lens £899.00
If this camera is going to fit between the D60 & D90 it needs to be around £600 max IMO, but current pricing puts its ahead of the D90!!!!!
Nikon's new high end entry level camera. Going to sit between the D60 and D90 apparently.

Plus Nikon are going for a AF-S wideangle:

You can if you like, but thats not the point of my post. People were merely questioning the lenses available for the D40/D60, not what lenses fit the canon.
No bother to me, I'm not using Canon or Nikon right now!
Ken Rockwell talks a lot of crap, but his D40 guide is excellent and is highly recommended. There is a simple version here:

Scroll to the bottom of the page and there are more advanced guides.
Yeah but the 35mm AF-S is a good focal length and that works a treat!
These all AF on the D40/D60
AF-S 50mm f1.4g
AF-S 35mm f1.8
AF-S 16-85
AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED
AF-S DX VR...
You will get a split on here on what to choose so you just need to go try both again and see what one you enjoy more, try going in to the menus and try a few lenses etc.
Didn't like the finish of the Canon - the smooth plastic just felt cheap and the finish was a smudge magnet. Preferred the menu layouts and feel of the D60 and the entry level Nikon lenses just felt so much better built and focusing was much better.
But using neither at the moment - Olympus...
Up to £150 - seen a few... Tomy, Garvin etc.
Whats the best value for money?
Seen a Road Angel 7000 which had speed camera detector too which is just about inbudget from some places - any good?
I went in there many times when I was younger, but sadly before I got in to photography, a lot of the really moody stuff is too dangerous to reach now due to the floors giving in an ceilings coming down... the padded cell is just plain scary!
great pics too!
How did you get in? Thought they had put a tight nit on security since I last ventured inside!!
*edit - just seen! You were lucky - they have been very strict up there before!
The 70-300 AF will not auto focus - only AF-S lenses will. It will manual focus, but thats not ideal for motorsport!!!
The Siggy APO has a motor inside so with AF with your D60.
The 70-300 AF-S is well over £400!
Seems it gets average reviews - nothing special but should be ok - guessing your using a Nikon with motor and not D40/D60 as this will not AF on them.
You can pick up a new one for under £100 if you search google.
I would honestly spend a bit more on the 70-300 Sigma APO...
Wow - those motorcross ones are awesome! Cant stretch to the 70-300 for her but the 40-150 should be enough for general purposes!
May even get her the 25mm pancake at some point!
Was just about to pull the trigger on a FZ28 for the misses when she saw a Olympus E-420.
Found it for under £400 inc 2 lenses which seems like a good deal. I noticed it has no image stabilizer, but she does not like the E-520's bigger grip.
I have never used or experienced Olympus so any user...
Dont get that D40 from ebay:
'THESE CAMERAS ARE NEW OLD STOCK AND WE ARE CLEARING THE LAST THAT WE HAVE BEFORE NEW STOCKS COME IN.
THEY COME COMPLETE AS NEW, THERE MAYBE SLIGHT MARKS ON THE BOXES. WE SUPPLY A 12 MONTHS WARRANTY.'
Spend £10 more on one from Amazon...
