I had a G9 for a month before i moved on to an SLR, it just didn't cut it for me! Its too big for a pocket... but not big enough for a shoulder bag, but if it does all you need it to do.. then bring on the pics!!!

You can have what people seem to be calling a 'pro' body and still get s**t pics! As mentioned before, some of the best pics on CS have been taken with 'beginner' cameras... or maybe it has something to do with the talent behind and in front of the body :)

No, they will both produce great pics, it all depends on what lenses you want! With the D70 you can get a wider range, including older lenses. With the D40 you need AFS Nikon lenses or Sigma HSM lenses. There are a lot of lenses for the D40, they do cost more. But saying that, a lot of the...

I don't think any SLR can be classed as 'Mickey Mouse'!!! With the right glass in front of the body any current gen SLR cameras can take amazing pics! Some of the best pics I have seen on here have come from ukaskew with his D50 (x2! ;)) and Clart with his D40 & D50.

Nice shots, but if you want to get that close your gonna need a macro lens! And sadly... thats not a cheap option for the D40!

Not been well so new toy not been used well yet! Still.. mirror?! very sharp lens... just got to be so careful with camera shake at f1.4 and low light situations!

Mine has no front or rear focusing issues as tested that... but so far I'm not getting good results! I'm off out in a bit to test some more and post the results!

Is it indoor or outdoor?? If its indoor bump up the iso to 800 Sunny outdoors... 200 with auto iso activated Overcast outdoors... 400 with auto iso activated Moving shots... as a newbie... put it in to sport mode, works a treat if you dont know what your doing!

Sigma 30mm F1.4 arrived today! Full test shots after the weekend! Heavy stumpy little fucker, autofocus is quick and its all nicely put together!

Nikon Lenses need AF-S and Sigma HSM to autofocus on the D40. There are loads of choices out there - all depends on your budget!!!!
