My mate’s going down that route for this seasons TDT. I’m sure I’ll be following him if the feedbacks good. I’ve got used to EPAS now but it’s still one more thing to go wrong
No. They were in a right state though so I rebuilt them with penny washers and heat tape. Came up really well in the end. A bit shiny at the moment, but with a bit of muck they’ll blend in 😂
I’ve only done 6 miles since I bought it 😂 And it’s impossible to put a price on it. The sheer amount of time I’ve spent on it is priceless. Can’t wait to get it out on the road.
Did a pre-MOT inspection today as it’s due to go in for its test, air-con regas and geometry set up this week.
Everything looked spot on except the handbrake which needed taking down a couple of notches.
Pretty simple job as I managed to remove the heat shield without taking the centre section...
Yeah i totally get it. Took me 4 years to do the BG, did the RB in one go. I remember driving my BG for the first time. Banging, bouncing, tramlining, rough idle etc..
The internet said that's just how they are. I thought how on earth did the Renault salesman sell these if they're like that. I...
Understand what you're saying but you'll get easier access when the subframe's out.
Are your shockers 'CUP' dampers? Previous owner said they were on mine. They weren't of course. He wasn't misleading me, he was told that by the guy he bought it off. Hard to tell when they're all rusted up...
I'd do the steering rack bushes as well if i was you. I pretty much replaced everything on my BG, like my RB, except the rack bushes. It eliminated the knocking but every now and then i'd get some clicking when turning out or into the drive. Went back and did the rack bushes and it's noise free.
Go on blame me :ROFLMAO:
TBH the RB drove horribly. The previous owner mentioned it was on Eibach Pro-line springs but i've had those before and they never felt like this.
Another owner mentioned that if i replaced all the rubber bushes to genuine then run them on new CUP dampers they'd be...
An update on work completed so far starting from the rear….

Brand new Purple Powerflex bushes

Pretty hazardous. Mask, glasses, gloves and a well ventilated area are needed. I usually open the big door on the garage when i'm doing mine. The Yellow Passivate doesn't give off that much, you get some fumes off the Zinc solution during plating. The worst one is the Acid Pickle which gives off...
And therein lies the main problem. If your parts are too rust pitted after cleaning, they won’t half show once you’ve plated them.
I did this but it had too much pitting. Ended up buying a new one.
I think I was in for a few hundred quid in the end but I’ll be using it again in the spring and zinc is pretty cheap. Long term much cheaper with a kit.
Yeah but I soon discovered you need a proper power pack with good voltage range and extra tank heaters. The passivate needs heating, the zinc solution needs heating and I also heated the de-ionised water. The pickle is essentially your cleaner which activates the part ready for dipping.
My first attempt at zinc plating with yellow passivate. Voltage too high and didn’t appreciate how chemically clean the parts needed to be, hence uneven coverage.
Next attempt. Much better and as good as you’re going to get for a DIY kit.
If you want rid of the missus, chop her up and...
I bought this kit https://www.gaterosplating.co.uk/all-products?product_id=207 Then I bought more tank heaters, then a power pack, passivates etc. Don’t buy cheap tank heaters, especially through winter unless your garage is really warm. Really important to keep temperature of solutions around...
I know what you mean. Mine looked so fragile i didn't think it would last another year. In the end i took a deep breath, stripped it all down and it might last a few more years now. Beyond that it's life without Xenons.
