Watching it back I did laugh that my first sense of the car just slightly understeering, was that I could hear it, not FEEL it! I concede that the steering could do with a bit more feedback.
I was really nervous...later sessions were run with some safety systems on, although not...
Yeah, very nervous, just trying to get a feel for what I had to work with grip wise, and it wasn't much! I dropped some pressure from the tyres for the following sessions and that helped a fair bit.
I haven't but I know someone who has and he rates them highly. It's not that the Kumhos were a budget option for me, it's that they were so good on Reg's car that I just had to give them a try.
That they come in £50-£100 less than other more premium brands is a bonus. Well, it is if a) they...
...and...
Not much to see, tip-toeing mostly, there was so little grip!
I'm please with the production...that's the first time I've ever shot 4k at 60fps and apart from locking the auto exposure through the windscreen in error, I think it's come out well. I still have some work to do on the...
Too early to say really, they seem to have plenty of wet grip on the road but at Goodwood, which was wet and greasy, they had nothing.
It's been a long time since I've had a wet trackday though so I've no real comparison.
Where do you have it mounted? I have mine on the headrest strut mount...
Driving aids off, maybe 60-70% throttle...footage of it happening made it into the video above...although watching it back it looks far less dramatic than it felt when it happened!
Perfect 😁 I've been planning this one for ages...wanted to keep moving it along at pace, thanks for the feedback (y)
I think you'll be fine without, the exhaust on these was never a limiting factor. I recall one tuner knocking out circa 300bhp on standard exhaust and filter...I think the only thing it had was a bigger intercooler to keep a lid on the temps. Of course they keep that quiet as they want to sell...
If I could make this one again I would, I could make it so much better now...in fact that's how I view all my earlier efforts; terrible and cringeworthy!
Confusingly it's a video that steadfastly refuses to die! 2.5 years old now and it's still clocking up 1k views per month (which is very good...
I'd say you need to go full on expensive just as much as you need a £12 detailer approved bucket with grit guard to wash your car.
Give it a go at the lower end. If it works, job done. If it doesn't, blame all of us.
On a similar quest I removed 117kgs from my 1,021kg Cup dropping it to 904kgs and nudging the bhp/ton above 200.
It was impactful, noticeably, but in doing so I totally ruined it.
Pictures of standard 172 Cups now make me go weak at the knees. Sniff.
I normally like to just tip-toe up to and put one toe over the line, you know, what if but safely. This was like a full on leap over, really caught me by surprise.
Thinking about it I recently upped my tyre pressures as they'd not been done since the warmer weather and so had all dropped circa...
...and for the first time this morning I genuinely sh*t my pants.
Accelerating onto a dual carriageway, 4th gear, 60 mph-ish, over a little bump/crest, and then SNAP, I'm looking at the verge. F*** me. I gathered it up, wasn't very graceful, tried my best to make it look like, you know, I...
89 kgs saved, from 1,110 down to 1,021.
That's a bit bonkers really...89 kgs is mental weight saving in what was still a usable daily hatchback. I really wish I still had mine, hence £6k for the one above appealing!
Braking's difficult as there's no sensor inbuilt.
The only way I've found to log it is by using the phone's accelerometers which, if mounted longitudinally, gives a fairly good measure of force and smoothness.
I hit one year in this thing as of tomorrow, the time has flown and as of right now, apart from the residual value, sunroof, and heated steering wheel, there's genuinely nothing else I miss from the RS.
Oh, and Android Auto.
There's a chance of 0.5-1.0 seconds around Goodwood if my estimates are anywhere near close to being correct. Watching my best lap with traction control on I had it spinning the inside wheel and TC activating constantly from 60-90 MPH on the way onto the longest straight.
If that inside wheel...
I've never understood the criticism for the steering myself.
Having said that, the last time I had proper feel was in my hydraulic 172 Cup and it's been 8 years since I drove that.
Since then, apart from my 200, it's been Fiesta ST and Focus RS. Neither of which had bad steering but they were...
I was having this exact same conversation the other night! I view it as a mode for me, DSC off with firm everything, active sound for extra growls, and a midway throttle, or family mode (comfort or EcoPro or traction off), soft everything and a quiet life.
Sport and Sport+ I have no time for as...
No.
The problem is anyone who sets their security up after fitting a cheap screen protector may have no security on their phone at all! You don't see that as a problem? Jesus...
