I'm sure you've read/heard about them but the main thing would be check if its had the cambelt changed recently and by a reputable garage with correct timing tools etc, you want receipts to prove.
That's the main expense really with these cars. If it hasn't been done recently...
Sounds like what I had on my 172 a while ago.
Was the immobiliser, the car wouldn't recognise the key (even though I'd been driving round in it that day).
Had to get key reprogrammed in end iirc
