Hmmm was about to get into bed, damn camera threads!
Wise move. The Canon has more lenses and a larger sensor for a start.
I just checked out the cost of ultra wide on the 3/4 Olympus system - £1,099.99!! WTF! My Canon 10-22 cost 1/3 of that!
It's to easy, p.s. buy something better than the 75-300 if you can :P check here for all the lenses and decent prices http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/
If you want to save some dollar, give 'kerso' a private message on here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php he owns this eBay...
I'd avoid the d40 personally, serious lack of lenses to choose from! Save for the D80 or go D50 or D70...
Did you break your 350D from abuse, maybe upgrade to the 30D?
Beaten to it.
If you go with the D40 remember you can only buy certain lenses if you want auto focus to work.
I'd get a 350D or D70 and start saving for decent lenses...
I like the look of the Canon personally. (I'm bias by the way)
Safe to say the in-lens stabilisation will be a little more affective than 'shake reduction'. It also will have all the manual controls you'll need. 4x optical zoom vs 3. Please ignore the 7.1mega pixels vs 10, that's not always a...
Yup, although as much as love my nifty fifty, the focusing is erratic and only modestly reliable when using Auto Focus assist on my flash unit. If I was traveling I think a wider prime in the 20-30mm region would be more versatile.. or maybe a wide prime and a long prime ideally (85 /1.8 or 100...
Yup lower the f/number the more light it can let in (faster). If you want more reach your going to have to settle for slower glass, the Sigma 17-70 is well rated, although in real world terms that 20 extra mm is a few footsteps! If your happy to travel with more than 1 lens there's plenty of...
This should explain focal length in its simplest form (visually anyway) http://www.tamroneurope.com/flc.htm
Remember to select 'Digital' unless you plan on buying a full frame like the 5D, 1.6x crop factor is another long winded explanation on top of f/ numbers, ISO, depth of field etc...
The D40 is restricted to only certain lens types and can't Auto Focus with some decent lenses like the 50 f/1.8
How long till the honeymoon? Taken me a year to start getting the potential out of the 350D.
Personally, 400D + Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 would be a good start, if you can raise your budget...
haha small world, should get around to getting it as my user name over here! Thanks! Whats your dA gallery?
hmmmm afraid I'm not to clued up on that, am interested in making my own though once I get some better shots, I'll have a nosey on some photog forums for you..
I've got the 1.4 S, sport badges on the door pillar, RSi interior, spoiler, alloys and colour coding. No RSi bump strips.
No faster than an RT just much nicer standard...
Really don't like the look of the Olympus DSLR system. Smaller sensor for a start and the top end lenses are well over priced.
Price Mecca:

350D, 400D, D50 or D70s would be a good start. Go to a shop and have a play.
D40 and D40x, as far as I'm aware only...

Buy a 350D or Nikon D70 (Depending if you like the smaller Canon or larger Nikon).
Then get saving for your future glass addiction. Alternatively start a crack habbit, it'll be cheaper in the long run :clown:
There ace shots! The camera on my N73 sucks big style, wish I had got a K800, that can actually take decent pictures in clubs/ at nite etc! I still gotta take out my pissing point and shoot...
My N73 '3 mega pixel' camera gets raped good and proper by SE's w800i's camera! Only upside is the good headphones for listening to my mp3 collection..
430EX is fantastic, its more intelligent than me, you can throw any settings at it in M mode and it'll compensate very well. Amazing for macro, portrait, indoor shots, can make the kit lens usable indoors, even night motor sport - talking about cars 20 meters away or more...
p.s. in on that...
50mm f/1.8 is built like a Mcdonald's happy meal toy, it misses focus now and then but oh boy was it worth every penny :D
Been enjoying some macro madness with mine! (with extension tubes and 1.4TC)
Works great in low light.
Oms your making me want IS!
If you have any luck with the Bank thing I'm in.
Afraid to say but the Mega Pixel race is near an end. You can only push so many MP's onto the sensors, so your looking at something bigger than 35mm and medium format territory... I seem to remember seeing digital hasselblad's going for 20k, so...
