7hr round trip = New Clio

Not sure yet, the original plan was to sell it to pay for the Cup

7hr round trip = New Clio

Hopped on the train from Benfleet in Essex to travel to Bristol to view and eventually buy this Clio Cup from Scott. Decent chap is Scott and after half hour we did the deal and then made the 170 mile trip back to Essex. Blatantly stole (i mean borrowed) some of these pics off Scotts account to...

A big NO to the decals and stripes

    carbon wing mirror idea..

True, but would give you the 'gloss' finished carbon look. I did think about buying them but imagined that 1 day i'd come out to a car with them missing! I bet a wing mirror would be hard to get wrapped without creases

Don't Streamline Carbon do genuine carbon wing mirror covers? Would that not look better?

List of essential track car modifications

If it's a first trackday, personally i'd refresh the brake fluid and fit track orientated pads, check rear pads. Only saying this as when was the last time the brake fluid was done. Basic service checks, maybe an oil and filter change, also depending on when it was done last. Check tyres...

    Freshen up the Cup

Part numbers for bits on the rear claipers, Pic inside.

    I think they're about £23 from Renault. However, on E Bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Brake-Pads-Fitting-Kit-Renault-Clio-Mk2-98-05-/310353667042?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item48428523e2

    Bare shells..

Cat C and nothing on it for that price... Ouch I'd let mine go with all the glass, panels, subframes, logbook, tax and MOT to give someone a chance with it. That Cup is a long way off

    15s on a 182 ff

Agreed, i've been looking at pics of 182s on 15" 2118s and i'm loving the look. I've put 16s on my 172, i also thought that these having pretty much the same rolling radius wouldn't make much of a difference. IMO WRONG, having gone from 15" with 195-50 to 16" with 195-45 it's the lesser...

    Bare shells..

I bought mine as a bare shell, ideal. To start from scratch and only put in what is needed. Although i did buy it only for 2 reasons, mainly for the colour and cage already fitted.

    Change of wheel, Superleggera content

I think red would be an ok contrast with the blue, when i first went to look at the shell i debated on whether to just buy the red cage out of it and fit it in my Odyssey blue phase 1. But i liked the white shell so bought them both

Thundersley, SS7 area. I'd say put a wanted ad in the classifieds and on Piston Heads for one, or maybe call Mark Fish to see if he has a cage or knows of someone that might have one for sale

    Change of wheel, Superleggera content

There was a rollcage in the classifieds last week the same as mine, and IMO for a decent price. If you're going to put a cage in then IMO go all out for the money you have, i wouldn't compromise just because it's a road car. At the moment the white Clio is my everyday car, no heaters, no radio...

It's a roll cage used in the Clio Cup race cars, i believe they were made by a company called 'Matter'

My thinking was that if they're the same weight and rolling radius it shouldn't matter too much. I'd imagine you'd only go bigger on wheel size to fit bigger diameter brakes, i bought them as the price was good. I also think the spoke design shows more of the disc, cooler brakes on track?

Wheels are ET37, 25mm spacers up front with 5mm spacers on the rear. Thank you, this Clio was literally built up from a bare shell and cage sitting on four axle stands on the driveway to how you see it in the photos

16" Superleggera with Yokohama S drive tyre, i weighed one this morning and it was 15.2kgs. This worked out to exactly the same weight as a 15" OZ F1 with Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyre

    Looking at a few Ph1 172's

Points are covered in the posts above, cambelt, dephaser and invoiced service history would be a bonus etc. Also std exhaust especially the backbox tend to crack on the join pipe with the centre section, check the rubber mounts. From personal experience bar oil and filter changes the Clio 172s...
