Measurements are across the centre three quarters. As long as that cut isn't down to the cords and you can't feel the cords through the remaining rubber with say a screwdriver, its good to go.

Heater motor not working on one of the speeds will be a burnt out pin on the connector which plugs into your heater resistor. Remove your glove box and you can get to it. Renault have a repair loom to fix the job.
Even if you have had one before Renault would like to check/clean and lube your catches and fit a maintanance sticker. If the catch needs changing and you have had one before its now chargeable iirc. I done 3 recalls this morning.
Turbos are good, mrs old one was sold to a work mate, its on the original clucth and turbo at just over 140k. I had to replace all 4 injectors when we had it as one went down and Renault only sold them as a set of 4 with pipes and reprog disc. I didnt really pay anything for them as my manager...
Expensive when they go wrong, ive been there. Really good cars though, expect 48-50 stop start and 60mpg on runs, dci 80 is your best bet, mpg is higher to.
