I think the belt slipping on the pully could cause damage to the belt and lead to it snapping. Also as my tensioner was cutting into the belt, I think it most certainly would have snapped. It cost just over £400 for everything in the end (PAS pump, bits needed for connection, aux belt kit and...
For those who want to know how this ended, the parent thread with the latest updates is over here http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?616835-PAS-belt-problem&p=8346879&viewfull=1#post8346879
:)
Well I took the car into Carlton garage in Exmouth today and got it looked at; apparently its the PAS pump that has gone which is also making the tensioner jump upwards and hit the belt. Should be all fixed by end of play tomorrow! Very excited about getting it back :)
im not sure this is a 'hopes it works out for you', but more a 'did it work out for you' as I dug this thread out of the 4month old pile! Just really want to know what happend!!!
Yes they are based in Buckinghamshire, which is where the previous owner lived I guess. I have had no dealings with this garage and never will after seeing what they have done, even if they were the last place on earth (i would do it myself in that event)!
Yeah, Im sure incy could do it under 2hours as well, but as he said the price is set by renault and not the mechys. Hopefully Carlton Garage in exmouth can give me a better price that my dealer will be willing to pay. Anyone else used these guys before and got an opinion?
The actual garage (they apparently have there own warrenty system in place). I remeber you saying my tensioner didnt look replaced and im inclined to agree with you on this; Bucks Renault have clearly taken the piss out of the previous owner! Im supprised its only a 1-2 hour job, your service...
its either a broken tensioner (so the belts on tight enougth and slipping) or the power steering pump bearing from what i have been told. I will know more when I get it looked at a bit closer (hopefully on tuesday)!!
I would have, but you guys wanted £700 which the garage I bought it from said was way to high! I have used you guys in the past though on non warrenty claims and the work done there looks pretty good :)
I am going to try the unipart place in exmouth as they seem to be my closest renault specialist.
No I wont be going back either. After looking at it myself today though, it does look like the tensioner is touching the belt and cutting a line into the middle of it! (see picutre below). Looks like this problem is all boiling down to crap workmanship from the garage who changed the belt 4000...
I use the garage for various things so wont name and shame. I think the mechy was a newbie that clearly wont last long if he keeps that up. Unfortunatally i coulnd wipe it off as I had to rush off to work. I will check the best I can for marks/rips/punchers on the belt tomorrow; is there an easy...
Im having a day from hell!!! I went to go see a mechanic to see if they could diagnose my PAS pump problem, they guy thought the belt was rubbing on the tensioner spring and then decided to use a big ass crowbar to try and move it away!!! in the picture below you can see where he pivited the end...
I dont see why this would be a problem; if it dosnt look/feel worn then it should be ok. If they can be taken appart, you could even check if its all ok inside (check the paddles/plates for movement etc). -£100 seems a good investment to me if it is in good condition, I wouldnt put a dephaer in...
Went to renault today about this, they have quoted £700 to repair! What a joke, I can get a whole engine for that amount!!! Does anybody have instructions on how to do this DIY method?
1. about 4000miles ago and yes
2. not really, its the same whenever the car is moving slower than 5mph
3. yes, you can hear the tyers jumping instead of moving smoothly
