Wow okay.
So in conclusion looks like i did manage to get the timing right and she's a strong old girl too :p
I know it's an ex press demo car, wonder if renault stuck a cheeky lump under there to impress the reviewers...
Wanted to get the power checked on a dyno as I wasn't 100% convinced the camshafts were timed to perfection. The horse shoe fitted fine but with a couple fingers force to slot into the inlet. It felt just as fast on the road but I like to be thorough and it also gave me an opportunity to get the...
Managed to finish this over the weekend between Goodwood on Sunday and a trackday on Monday!
In the end just bought a set of genuine renault tools as that way I can use them for the mrs 225 when that's due the belt.
Manifold wrapped:
Cambelt, dephaser and water pump on. All engine parts...
Although it's not heavily modified it's far from standard:
CNC matched to head lower inlet
Decat
Stainless exhaust system
KTR induction kit
RSTuner remap
Arp rod bolts
Aircon delete kit
And it has also just had new injectors, new lambda sensor, new plugs, all filters replaced and oil changed...
Well I went down to Atspeed after some research on here, AmDs dyno always seem to over read and on a dyno day a few months back cliosport attended all the readings seemed pretty honest.
So it read at 182.3bhp @ 6435rpm and 160 lb/ft @ 5297rpm...
Always thought it was a quick one but that seems...
Mine went in with a little wiggle but it wasn't a struggle, still I like to be thorough so gonna pop down to AmD for a power run later today. Will post up results
I'll see if my local dyno can fit me in tomorrow, it definitely wasn't that easy to fit it lol. Seems to drive nice and I've driven many 1*2s and this ones quick
Got it sorted in the end I could get the horse shoe in but with a little force, re timed it several times but it never changed so I reassembled and it's driving perfectly.
Strange thing is when I stripped it down the intake cam was well out of timing but the car drove perfectly and seemed very...
This is really starting to piss me off. I've followed procedure 6 times now and the timing is still out.
Fit cambelt, tensioner adjusted on marks and pulleys spun 3 times then check tensioner. Horse shoe still fits nicely.
Lock inlet with renault tool and torque it up, same for exhaust. Then...
All three pulleys ( inlet, exhaust and crank ) need to 'float' on their shafts, as in spin freely in place without disturbing the shafts. This is achieved by slackening off the bolts/nut to release the clamp on the pulleys.
Once all three can freely spin on their shafts you then set the...
When I can't be arsed I always reach for my trusty bottle of AG Aqua wax, it can be applied whilst the cars still wet eliminating the drying stage and I can do the 265 in about 15 mins from first spray to final buff. Doesn't give terrible results either.
Cheers fella it may be put to one side for a while as I have other priorities as of next week and Renault have lost my parts. May have to pick this back up in a fortnight!
Today I'm getting down to the main job, cambelt!
Water pump came off a breeze however the gasket has been comfortable for 14 years and refused to even lift at the edges. Unfortunately it took me over an hour to hand sand the gasket away, proper PITA
Would be cracking on now however...
The car was sold on but then shortly broken for parts to fund the owners other project car :( At the time of dismantling it was still running fine and the rings were very much in one piece.
Vicky is now doing things properly in a 225, but yet to install Nos :p
Old injectors out:
New ones in:
Also had a small oil weep from the breather plate so whilst the inlet was off managed to tackle that:
Cleaned up and refitted with some silicone sealant:
Okay got the car in the workshop this week to do a major engine refresh as the old girls ticked over past 100k. Plans include:
Cambelt, dephaser and water pump replacement.
Remove the exhaust manifold and heat wrap it.
Fit a set of silcone hoses I've had laying around.
Four new injectors and a...
I feel sorry for it, it should be getting loved and detailed every weekend. I think CS should buy it and restore it to pristine original condition as a promo car for the club, a fitting end to this rather long winded story.
Given this game the best part of a fortnight now hoping it'll get better and nope it's still repetitive and boring. The combat is so basic.
Pretty much gathering dust on the side now, waste of £60 if ever I saw one.
