Try cleaning it, if it works straight away you know that's the problem! Is there a camshaft sensor on Clios? Had it a couple of times on HGVs where it will turn over 3-4 times then fire, because it can't pick a signal on the crank so it has to rely on the cam to tell the position of engine...

If thats enough to remove all swirls etc and give a good finish, would you then use another polish on top then wax?

They are HID mate, just the type of bulb it is, High Intensity Discharge. Just a different way of how the bulb works, but they are not the typical HID 10k you get in 106's down McDonalds.

Stainless with stainless fittings is the only way to go.

Sounds like their too long, did you check the length with the old ones? I used lemforder ones recently and they are fine.
