Office365 - Exchange Email and Sharepoint/Sky Drive Pro plus full Office Professional suite which will always be up to date - great for businesses. Plus you get Office for your smart phones :)

The bandwidth of a RDP session would be much less then the bandwidth used by the VPN and CRM data transfer (depending on their setup).

If windows environment and you host the CRM internally, install Remote Desktop Services server? use the Remoteapp for remote users to use the CRM.
