Ive found an older set of brembo HC discs in my parts bin so I guess I could pop them on and see if it goes away.
Just concerned about this resistance issue as Im not sure if thats normal due to the diff. After all when driving the i'd have thought if the hub was jiggered it'd be all the time...
it still does the resistance thing with no caliper or disc on however im wondering now if it could be a warped disc? After all the wheel bolts go through the disc doesn't they. Having said that they werent warped before this whole thing.
When i say there is resistance to turning the drivers...
Ok some more questions from me regarding this issue if I’ve got, which is a vibration/wobble you can feel through the car when travelling about 38-42 mph. No noises or graunching sounds at all when this is happening.
This is what I’ve done:
Changed to another wheel and tyre (balanced)...
First real test drive today as it took it work, all seems alright other than a slight vibration at around 40mph. Could be some crap on the hub face or back of the disk im thinking but only a minor one to sort. Or I’ve lost a wheel weight. I’ll investigate over the weekend
I bet it simply comes up as the right part on their “system” and they just chuck it in the box. They should rectify this though I don’t think any clios used 52 toothed abs rings do they?
Thanks for the kind offer but I don’t strictly need it as the shaft is on the car now with the old abs ring. I was just trying to blag a spare from j&r to see if they’ll correct their mistake. If anyone wants a 52 tooth abs ring that j&r apparently don’t make let me know [emoji23]
It’s just the after sales really that lacks, clearly someone has researched into the various requirements of the cars they make replacement kit for but none of this seems to be available to the guys who man the phones. It’s probably the system they run being archaic - they can’t find any details...
I rang j&r again today just to see what they’d do about the abs ring
The person I spoke to was adamant they didn’t send two abs rings with any drive shafts and they certainly didn’t make a 52 toothed one. Funny that considering their eBay guys said the opposite!
Finally after much back and...
Yeah looking at it now I’m inclined to agree. Plus the inner cv boot securing ring was on backwards but easily rectified. I might ring them tomorrow see if I can blag a new 44 tooth ring be useful to have a spare
In all honestly I’ve not counted them but placing it next to the standard ring there are differing numbers of teeth as they begin to not match up round the circumference. You can see if in the photo to some degree. The thin ring matches the spacing of the Renault ring perfectly, just not in the...
For future reference or those who might be curious - from the right
what came on the drive shaft so the thinnest ring same number of teeth as original,
Middle is the spare ring supplied by j and r - incorrect amount of teeth for my car but wider than the ring on the shaft
Far left and dirty...
Just having a look at the abs rings now, the number of teeth match just fine yet the ring itself is much narrower than the standard one (probably about a third of the width).
The ring with more teeth (which I assume is for other variants of the car) is wider but still not as wide as the...
Well it’s arrived and seems to fit the hub which is good. The abs ring is a lot thinner than standard but has the correct amount of teeth at least, the other ring looks the same width but far more teeth. No point me fitting it yet as my gearbox oil order hasn’t shown up so I’ll just wait until...
Thanks chaps, spoke to j&r but they apparently only do one passenger shaft for the 182 and they don’t allow customers to speak to the tech guys anymore. I’ll wait a bit for a reply but I wonder if it’s worth a punt ordering the one on the eBay link

Thanks for the help, I’m going to give these guys a call today and see what they have in stock.
Need to get a new abs sensor for it too as that was literally stuck in the hub, had to cut the top off and smash the innards out with a hammer and punch
yeah I think I will mate, just out of interest was yours a 182 cup/full fat then? 50 quid is a bit more easy to swallow than the price of genuine shafts if they can even get them anymore!
sorry to bump this old post, i'm assuming some of these users are still on here, do these j&r nearside shafts fit a 182 with cup packs?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-CLIO-2-0-182bhp-DRIVESHAFT-NEAR-SIDE-NEW-03-05/140534388073?clk_rvr_id=1463913856469&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true
the CVs on mine pretty knackered so I was thinking of replacing the near side shaft. I see that J&R driveshafts now do them, what are peoples views on those?
Also are there differences in near side shafts - are the 182 cup/full fat shafts different to say a normal 182/172?
thanks
honestly it makes you wonder how some places stay in business when they cant even fit an exhaust properly instead just slapping wob over the joint and then having the gall to charge you £120 for work that should take 30 mins tops. Would you want these blokes doing engine work or your brakes...
awesome bit of kit and nice to see its a mk1, usually only see mk2s these days if at all and its especially rare being into venetian red.
I would be happy if my one one looked 1/100th as good as this one, look forward to further updates on it :)
thanks mate, it was a rare late one in black and it had all the options like half leather seats and opening rear windows which not many got. I put a 1.8 143 vvc in it after the original 1.4 head gasket went pop in a big way due to the previous owner doing a poor job of fitting a replacement.
Very rare indeed if you want a genuine gti and the prices have gone up accordingly
That was the thing with the gti, even in the spi form like the one picture they felt a like a rocket compared to the more mundane models but they didnt look too different so most people assumed it was just an...
