They wear out after about 4 to 5 years of use.
Silas, a Laguna, not sure which engine size or year, shares pretty much the same throttle body as the ph1.
I would say it's about a litre to 1000 miles. It never drank a single drop if oil till the rebuild.
It's due it's cambelt so will get the head refurbished but it's just the bottom end which is the question, whether to risk it or rebuild that
I don't think the rings were done no as the pistons were taken from a engine with only 14k on the clock. Again the measuring I'm not sure. It was done at rs tunings dad's place.
I would have said it must be related to the pistons / block but there is no smoke what so ever and the leak down test...
No mate it was just pistons and a re-hone. It's been like this for like 5 years plus now and the oil loss only started from the day the pistons were changed. (Engine dropped a bearing reason for pistons change)
My Clio 172 has been losing oil over a long period of time after a rebuild using 2nd hand pistons a few years ago, no noticeable smoke and not dropping oil out from the engine.
Got my mate to do a leak down test and here are the results:
Cylinder 1 - 152 psi 3% loss
Cylinder 2 - 149 psi 2%...
That's the dilemma I'm in. By the time you buy everything to make a s/charged kit and do it yourself it's not a million miles away from just buying the whole kit outright from ktec and without any of the hassle.
Got to disagree with that. Every time one of mine has gone the spring is catching on the throttle holder preventing it from closing, proven by the fact the spring at one side goes shiny where it's been wearing. The spring has expanded basically.
If you look at the spring closely it's actually...
I bought my last one something like 5 years ago and its starting to stick now. £400+ new from Renault is just utter crazy! plus there will come a point where these become obsolete and we have to rely on 2nd hand ones with no fix once it goes.
Only two options available: someone comes up with a...
Ph1 throttle body is just a pile of cheap junk.
They last about 20-30k of use then start to stick.
Jenvey used to do a single one for the Clios. Thats who I will be contacting once this one packs up.
Do you mean with the extra boost or just in general mate?
Is the difference between stock lump charged and high boost forged acceleration like night and day? Looking at straight line speed forged seems to be a second quicker on a 1/4 mile.
Cheers for the advice.
Can't decide on the forge part yet. What puts me off is potential poor drivability, crap cold starting, juddery heavy uprated clutch like a on off tap, just generally hard to drive but is fresh and up to the job VS buying a second hand most likely high mileage engine...
Only thing that could be missing from the kit is the main pulley. Do you know what size Clios are running mate?
In the process of gathering the parts so for a stock engine:
Charger
Charger Brackets
Injectors
Intercooler / pipe work
Slim rad
225 keyd pulley
ECU
Have I missed anything lol ?
Is this the right charger? Seems a decent price and Inc mocal oil cooler.

I bought one for a ph1 and the part number was the other one.
