im on kw variant 2. got them fitted by k-tec last summer. theyre pretty solid even on the softest setting but never had any problems with them. look like new even after almost a year and all the need is a quick wash down with a hose to get the crap off and the ride hight can be adjusted...

here's mine - its illegal but touch wood never been stopped yet!!

normally you have like a 50 quid excess to pay - well i did, if you get tit through your insurance. but a new windscreen for a 172 is about 360 quid i think! mine gets a hit every year....
