^^ Ditto I'm leaning towards the Quaiffe because of cost, no maintenance and high re-sale value. But I can fully see the advantages of a gripper.
If I was in a situation where the engine loom was on just one bulkhead connector and an engine/gearbox removal was a few hours work I might consider...
I'm just looking on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-Sport-Clio-172-CUP-Gearbox-JC5129-FULLY-WORKING-Only-78k-fits-182-/141063574828?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AClio&hash=item20d80b552c
£180 for a cup gearbox with 70k on. I'm wondering if it might be worth buying a...
Not £500 - but the costs are looking like being around a grand fitted for the Quaife or £1400+ for the gripper
It's £400 more and although I understand where it would be better I'm still stuck at "if it's good enough on the burpspeed car" lol
There are a lot of other things to be done - and...
No-one - but I do go to shows in it, weekend blasts with mates and the ring/euro road trip next year. 2,500 miles in 2 weeks.
Also 400bhp is fine but even if I fit cams mine will only have 210bhp.
I just can't help but think the gripper is overkill - and £500 extra. Considering the...
At the moment as tempting as it is to go full blown gripper, I'm thinking of buying a Quaiffe through one of the guys on here who can get them cheap, then posting it with my gearbox to Agency as they seem to have made a great job of Tony's and others on here.
Then the engine will be coming...
I've uploaded a really short one from mine at Donington
Disclaimer : This was on my old coilovers, without the new geo settings, and on road tyres. But still...
Yeah cheers mate. I found that pixel peepers website and looked at a load of shots at 300mm. I certainly couldn't see any softness and tbh at 1000px wide who's gonna tell in most web/print formats?
I can get one for £850 brand new - whereas the 70-200 and TC would be well over double that...
What do you guys run Tony?
It sounds like gripper might be the best especially if I can get 3-5 years between servicing it. I was under the impression it might need re-torquing every year.
Yes - I know grinspeed have fitted a couple to track clios.
They're US made so no-one in the UK will stock them.
Well yes initial outlay is £1200 or £1500 - but gripper will need re-torquing and re-plating eventually which makes me think the 2nd hand prices when I get bored of the clio in a...
Paddock hill at brands? If you clip the apex on that and end up on two wheels you'd be f**ked! I don't think any diff would save you with the drop! LOL
Yeah the donington chicane you're absolutely right - hard on the 4 pots coming up to it, off the brakes, turn in and the guys with diffs are on...
I had a quick look through my btcc/porsche/mini/ginetta footage from when I was up there and I agree with you for knockhill now tbh.
It's rare you ever need to apply power on two wheels but the configuration of KH there are some sweeping corners that are IMO designed entirely to keep you on two...
I hate sigma lenses - every one I've owned has had to be re-calibrated or sold on because it under or over focused. Their QA is shocking.
I don't have the 70-200 any more, I borrow one of my friends. Had to sell my camera gear last year to help my girlfriend out - but got a wad in savings again...
Most cars are on two wheels at Knockhill because the rumble strips are all cuttable - that's fairly unique from my experience of circuits. The ones at cadwell certainly aren't, and hitting a few at brands nearly put me on my roof lol. The ones at anglesey that you can go wide on or cut are...
Any of you guys ever used the Canon 70-300L?
I've been reading rave reviews about it using the 70-200 2.8L IS II image stabilisation system. Being pin sharp throughout the range etc.. etc..
I had a 70-200 f4, then a 70-200 2.8L but I want something with a bit more reach for my motorsport...
I'm trying to do this winters rebuild and next years events to a proper budget this time - rather than just throwing money at stuff left right and center like usual
Costs at the moment are looking like £1500ish for gripper, £1200ish for quaiffe and £900ish for mfactory
As chip said I don't...
Oooh thanks mate I'll drop you a PM later in the month.
I'm still hugely conflicted, I want to enter sprints in the car next year and a time attack round or two so if gripper makes a huge difference on track over quaiffe I'd rather go that route and just live with it on the road. It's not...
One of the guys who does a lot of my mates civics etc... orders mfactory stuff a lot from the US so he might be able to get me one in a batch of the honda ones.
I might ask him how much it would work out as with import tax and fitting.
Pauleds - It seems to be around £845+vat for the diff (quaiffe) - I believe they machine your crownwheel and fit the diff to it free. Then it's £3-400 in labour to strip and rebuild your gearbox. But if you can do that yourself then you'd save those costs.
For me it's gonna be £1400 ish
Not...
Hrmm it is tempting. They're slightly cheaper and my car did 3k last year and has done under 2k this year LOL!!
Are they at all difficult on the road - I've driven a few cars with diffs and they squirm around on bumpy roads pretty badly
Just found a thread about agency
Long way from me though but read a burpspeed thread where they said he can rebuild them all in a day while you're shopping
I'm wondering if it might be worth buying another gearbox, strip the diff out of it and send the diff to quaiffe so they can machine the...
