I have been looking around for renewal quotes just out of interest, 23 years old, 5years ncb, 172 cup, and the best price i can get is £590.10 through privilege!!!!!!
Not bad when u consider it was £850 last year!
What do people think?
Fraser
Yeah cos as soon as i take the dash appart it will rattle more than a grannie thats just had a hip operation!
And why is the tax disk such a pain to change in the holder? U need to tape the disk in along with the clear plastic cover! What a pain!
Fraser
I was tightening the stupid cliosport tax disk holder up in my 172 cup and one of the screws dropped out and down the windscreen vent! Its now rattling around like a b!tch! Is there an easy way of gettin it out without takin the whole dash off, as it is driving me mad under cornering!
Fraser
Well i suppose it is quite easy to criticise ppl but just dont try and take on anyone at the lights or you will give us 2.0ltr guys a bad name!
LOL
Fraser
Get it lowered for a start! My standard cup is lower than that and the renaultsport badge is too high on the back!
And also the front bumper doesnt look like a 172 and u need to colour code the rest of it! Appart from that ur close!
Oh and i hope u have informed the insurance...
Well it may be quicker but chris harris in autocar still prefers the 182. Alot of money for it too. The megane is much heavier and even if it is faster in a straight line i think the 172 cup, 182 cup would eat it round bends, as they are lighter and much more responsive
The 225 and tropies are...
Yeah i was expecting the megane to be a bit quicker. But it is more relaxing to drive, doesnt have the crashy suspension that my 172 cup has and doesnt need to be thrashed to get performance out of it. But thats exactly why i like my car, its rawness and responsiveness.
The megane didnt seem...
Got a test drive of one 2day, very refined and deceptively fast. Dont need to try as hard as i do with the cup. But it didnt feel as responsive as my stripped down cup, and they actually felt very similar in straight line performance. Get to ur dealer and get a shot to see what u think!

I got to test drive the megane 225 when my car was in for servicing. I was impressed with the interior (leather seats etc) and space but i didnt find it much quicker than my 172 cup. This might have had something to do with the rain but i found the naturally aspirated lump in my car more...
Yeah well i think it mite be close. He said that he had a drag (on a 1/4 mile) against a regular 172 in the dry and just beat it!
Makes me think i can take down his 28k golf!
Fraser
Theres a guy at work whos spent a stupid amount of money on his golf and says that the 1.8 T is now pushing out close to 260 bhp. Would it be able to beat mine 0-60 considering standard it is 8.5 secs to 60 and also the fact he would get loads of wheelspin!
Fraser
I just mailto:sh@t">sh@t my pants! haha. It would be more controllable with 4wd though and would be like a rocket off the line!
But my cup would still have it!
;)
Fraser
Yeah well i suppose it makes it more relaxing to drive having all these aids which can be switched off anyway. But for rawness its hard to beat a cup!
Fraser
cos they generally have wider tyres, more agressive suspension set up which cant work very well when the roads are really slippy. It would prob happen as well with 1.4s though.
Fraser
Wow i thought that it was just due to the lower tyre pressure in the offside rear tyre, but it looks like most 172/182 owners have experienced this. At least i caught it, if i wasnt paying attention i would be straight over the roundabout backwards!
Anyway rory it was the roundabout at...
