Well, it appears that the timing gear was a fifth wheel not designed to go backwards so the result is a mystery to this day. The timing gear was trashed! And the ZR 1 Corvette factory test driver could only get the published 0-60 time powershifting without lifting at all or using the clutch.

I really hate it when Im cruising along on the rev limiter and one of those Golf diesels just goes cruising by. They have great torque. If you are behind one in traffic at say about 150km/hr or so they just pull away without dropping a cog when it clears. Thats progress I guess.

Just got back from a couple months on the other side of the big pond and my Willy is running a bit rough. The plastic cover on the valve cover over the ignition wires has chafed completely through the insulation on one wire and gotten a good way into the others. Any recommendations on wires...
