Well, as for other owners waving, you wont have that very often as I for one have never seen another Williams when in mine!
But you do get waves from all sorts of drivers and people even slow down as they pass on the motorway to get a closer look at the car!
The VW Golf GTi Mk1 was not the first hot hatch, despite what VW would have us draw from their advertising strategy (in fact, theyve never claimed it was the original). Cars like the Escort Mexico, Lotus Sunbeam, Renault 5 Gordini and loads of other earlier "hot hatches" stand testament to this! :D
The Cup will be a sought after model, but I think its too early to tell if its classic material. Inevitably, its going to come up against the Williams and V6 in the desirability stakes. Mk1 172 prices are basically at the level of a mint Williams now - and some people like me decide to buy a...
IMO there has never been a true enthusiasts car that doesnt have some build niggles - how many Lexus, Toyota or Jaguar cars are true must have cars for the petrolhead? Conversely... Lancia Delta Integrale, Renault Clio Williams, Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo etc. Its the price you pay for a properly...
The only thing about using the 16V box with a Williams lump (which most do), is that the Willy box was designed to be a lot stronger than the Valvers one and Ive heard of loads of 16V boxes biting the dust soon after a Willy conversion.
If its a Williams as opposed to a Williams 2 or Williams 3, then there will be a number on a gold plaque rivetted to the dashboard next to the heaters. It should be from 0001 to 0399 in the UK (Frank Williams has no 0001).
The Willy 2 and 3 werent homologated for FIA WRC purposes, so there...
Im afraid thats wrong. The bottom end is visually the same as the F7P 1764cc and is based on the F7P crankcase. I hear that the crank is from the 1.9 diesel engine and that some of the gearbox parts are from the 19 TD - thats all!
Williams: The original homologation special, 400 RHD cars, numbered individually and made in late 1993. Basically, Renaultsport took advantage of FIA Rallying rules that allowed engine capacity of up to 2.0 litres when the car was homologated (at the time, they were using the 1764cc Clio 16V as...
I tested loads of cars after selling my 16V - including a Cup, many 106 GTis and so on during the autumn, the result of which was that I found the Williams suited me best. If youre used to an Evo, then the difference between the straight line speed of a Williams, Cup, 306 etc wont mean much -...
Yeah, door locks are just held on by a shim that slides in between the barrel and the inisde of the door panel. Fiddly to get at, but a technically easy job.
Id budget and be prepared to fork out £500 or so about twice a year if I were you. I had a 16V and spent a lot over two years on it (but I was a perfectionist and the car wasnt the best to begin with).
Ive now got a low(ish) mileage Willy with 57k on the clock - its going to need a new...
