If you want 'seriously' cheap running costs, find a MINT 1.5D AX - these will do 60mpg with no effort AND are quite nippy cos so light. OR same engine in Pug 106 or Saxo...
depends what you want?
performance = 'just' before power dies, so approx. so 500-1000 before red-line
economy = 'just' at point that it will take next gear with a relaxed throttle (not straining) - say 35 into 4th, 45/50 into top
forget Reno!
as long as u go to VAT registered garage and they use 'genuine' parts, still keep warranty.

if you are anywhere near Kettering Northants, can STRONGLY recommend Selecta...
1) crouch down by front fogs and look along bodywork both sides - everything should be in perfect line (well up to reno standards!)
2) even panels gaps - £1 coin size is normal - much more or less and could hasve been bent
3) crouch down at centre of rear of car approx 10ft + away - look...
