I think painting the roof would be a bad idea, if you didn't match it with a bonnet it would look stupid. Perhaps the taxi wasn't a great example but you get my meaning? ;) Also it's quite permanent and would devalue the car I believe.

How do you mean? The bonnet only actually meets the bumper at the front grill, and it's about 4/5 inches maximum.

By ph2 do you mean a 172 ph2? If you do then the fleck is different in the alacantra, it's plain on the 172 and spotted on the 182.

The front and rear washers use the same pump, just it spins in a different direction dependant on which way you switch the stalk. Do you know if the pump has ever been replaced? As for the interior light, this could be a number of things. How brightly is it lit. Oh and blanking plates...
