Steve- As i was saying probably throttle response is better, not power. Though with a filter and de-cat combo you will get a power change which is noticeable.
Sangy- noticeable is when you notice it!
106 gtis..agreed better handling, but its not actually more fun, and besides the 172 is heavier so what do you expect. To match performance youd need to get a supercharger (whine, argh!!) and then theres the fact them chassis cant take over 150bhp..just get a 172/cup!!
From what ive read they do take their game very seriously, there best form of advertising is word of mouth so they cant be too bad? 97 decibels, nice! just legal!
I know, i found the thread you were on about, i wouldnt pay £250 for a cover for mine, but i would for a 172/cup, purely for the coolness factor. For carbon fibre its not that bad a price.

Look in your yellow pages, theres always a mobile dent repairer. Theyre often good as they only do dents. Alternatively get one of those dent pullers from halfords and polish it out.

As a drivers car the 306 gti-6 rallye is better than a 172, easily. Havent driven a normal GTI-6. They were one of the last old school hot hatches, worth driving if you ever get a chance. Performance isnt everything.. Though still, again, a 172 is still the better overall owners pacakge.
