if you're disconnecting the battery you should really take the +ve terminal off too.
1, As for how long I would presume 15 to 30 mins would be enough.
2, The code will be needed if it's the standard renault job.
3, Shouldn't due to internal memory/battery etc.
the code for gris iceberg (Iceberg Grey) is 77 01 422 387 as supplied here so I believe the paint is correct, it's just upto it's usual crap standard of colour match mate.
1, probably ignition coil as you say mate, common on them there 172's!
2, the sensors never seem to work, check out this thread about this issue. Atleast 3/4 people have the exact same problem at any given time!

mine's a 51 on a 02 plate, 46K miles, no mechanical problems whatsoever, and electrically has been sound for nearly 3 years of ownership! Not all Clio's are bad, trust me!!!
toxic fume sensor, no idea what causes it mate but probably need replacing, plenty people on here have had this! Sure someone will be along soon... ;)
You tried switching off and restarting?
Relatively easy, although i've never done one on a 172. iirc I did mine from underneath but it's some years ago now. It does need tentioning so always best to have someone who knows do it.
the aux belt will also run the power steering pump, hence why if it's slipping it will be hard to turn the wheel. Also by doing this you'll be putting excess strain on the steering rack. The aux belt is often referred to as the fan belt, but in reality drives the auxillary items (power steering...
does the light come on then stay on unless you fiddle with the handbrake? Or does it go off on it's own?
If your pads are worn then this will cause the light to illuminate because as the pads ware down the more fluid there is in the braking system and the less is stored in the reservoir.
Reet, here's the deal guys... I am currently 24 years old and my birthday is January 28th. My current insurance expires on 24th December, meaning that I will be 25, 1 month and 4 days after my policy renews. This makes a difference to my renewal believe me! So, I plan on getting a 1 month policy...
there is 2 removal tools yes, but in reality all you need is 2 small pieces of wire (coat hanger) bent into 'U' shapes to fit into the removal holes at each side of the stereo.
