what size is the blue wire, smaller than the red and black ones?

The cig lighter is already fused but to be on the safe side and to prevent losing interior lights etc etc i would fit an inline fuse to feed the roadangel. The red wire will be live as you say, however there is no neutral in the car just the -ve earthing to the chassis and -ve battery terminal...

Could be a faulty relay yes mate, have you got a multi meter to check the connections of the relay base? I earthed mine in the same place. Could try moving the earth directly onto the battery -ve terminal. Where are you based?

can buy smooth ones (not painted) for colourcoding from Reno dealer at about £20 each.

same problem myself a year ago mate. Some cars are pre-equipped and some arent. The wiring thats up behind the bumper didnt actually go anywhere and I had to ignore this and install the complete loom from the kit. The easiest way to tell if yours is pre-equipped is to look at the wiring plug on...
