We had a dodgy batch a while ago, was a change in their production method if I remember. Obviously that chipping you see isn't ideal, but with an eye kept on it, it should be ok, and the bonus with the compount is you can run the material right down to near the backplate without any noticable...
Wasn't thinking properly about the exhaust, it's worth looking at as a possibility.
If your that close to him, might even be worth taking it over to him to check it over and identify the problem.
I drove 90+ miles each way in March for Fred to do my cambelt, and can't recommend him enough!
Can't comment on the exhaust tbh, but the manifold finishes after the subframe, so I wouldn't have thought it could hit.
I'm not sure where you are based but just remembered this from Fred@ BTM at the moment. Price of the dephaser change + the discount he is running at the moment. Obviously, it...
Haha! If it worked before, it can't be anything too serious surely! (All your tools make it back into your toolbox?;)
If you lived slightly closer I would offer to help you sort it, used to have one myself
Thats not good. Do you know where they think it is stuck? If they think it's in the bore, to save some time and money, it would be a good idea to get a bore camera in there and check it out. Should be able to look at the valves as well. Would just maybe shed some light on the possibilities...
I had this and i just adjusted my brake pedal switch. Problem sorted. There is a how to guide on here. If you look under where the pedals are you will see the switch
I'm no expert but the obvious things to me would be:
-Look from a distance for colour match
-Look down the panels for any ripples to make sure they smooth
-Check for any overspray on mouldings and rubbers.
-Check for runs/ orange peel
(Was it you who had the run in with the lorry?)
I had this on my old one. Never really looked into it much, but I believe it is to do with a bad earth somewhere! Normally near the rear light clusters
I can't comment on these particular ones, but Hi-Spec quality from what I have dealt with has been poor. I'v dealt with them for lotus's, and the ones I dealt with I sent back 3 times due to poor quality when I inspected them before fitting. Having said that, that was on rear callipers which had...
Is it a 172 engine put into a non-RS. With a replacement 172 loom fitted? Which plugs do you need help with? Plugs onto the engine?
Just asking questions to try pin-point exactly you need? (Also where abouts are you, someone might be able to pop round and help?)
It's still going to be cheaper to get one in standard spec, and in better condition. I know you said you are a trained mechanic, but look around the forum about the cambelt replaced procedure. It's not the easiest of cars to do, and a lot of people screw it up. What mileage is this one?
