Can't comment on how it compares to other exhausts in fitting as the RS192 is the only exhaust I've ever fitted. I fitted it mine myself with no problems a part from some grit falling into my eyes (a real b!tch!). Followed some basic instructions from this board on what to do and a bit of...
I have the RS192 and it isn't really loud under normal driving, saying that it's as quiet as the standard system would be a lie, but seriously, it is only very slightly louder, just a deeper rumble and only really notice the differnece when you put your foot flat to the floor. I wanted a quiet...
I would do a similar thing to what TopGear did with a Lada Riva, but instead of sending it off to Lotus with £100,000, I'd send the Clio to Renaults F1 motor sport division and since money is no object have them completely rebuild it down to every nut and bolt using the finest materials and...
I had a coupe 20vt LE about 10 years ago and used to frequent coupe-sport.co.uk which then went to fiatcoupe.net then finally to ffcuk. Lovely car and goes like stink (in a straight line!), though it did have a few niggley problems but then that's Italian for you. Enjoy your 20vt LE, I know I did!
I think the running in is also to ensure you bed the breaks in, scrub the tyres off its etc etc so you don't kill yourself on the first corner out of the showroom.
Here is some more interesting info regarding ECU mapping, Unichip and "self learning" ECUs from a Unichip technician.
http://sgauto.wordpress.com/unichip-q-ecu-performance-tuning/
Actually the site has a lot of interesting articles too.
Doesn't the ECU run in two modes, open and closed? It runs in open, for example on start up when the engine is cold and using measurements from various the sensors (o2/lambda/coolant, throttle, evironmental factors etc) to make "guesses" to ensure it meets emissions, fuel consumption targets...
Would that also reset the "optimized" settings for the Unichip? It would reset the standard ecu and clear my "bad" driving habits, but whatever signal sent by the standard ecu, it will still be enhanced by the piggy back unit, no?
As I understand and what I have been told is that the standard ecu receives signals from the various sensors in and around the engine. Depending on what it reads, the ecu the sends these signals and these signals are then intercepted by the Unichip unit and then alters the signal, to the fuel...
Interesting to hear that opinions of Unichip are somewhat unfavourable. Interesting to me as I have one fitted to my Trophy. Didn't know it was even fitted until after I bought it. It wasn't long before I had it "re-mapped" after I took off the big open foam induction kit that came with the...
Yeah but, stick a waste paper basket sized back box and a dustbin sized induction kit with a "Scooby" modded bonnet scoop, should give the 1.2 enough power to keep up with any 1*2. Strap on one of those electric hairdryer super charger kit with a "chip" consisting of a resistor and it'll blow...
I had the same problem at my last MOT, high CO and hydrocarbon readings. Took the car for long thrash to make sure the CAT was really hot. Passed on the re-test no problem.
It could also be the CAT and/or the lambda sensors. My last MOT reported high really hydrocarbon and CO. Took the car out for a real good blast for about a hour and took it back to the MOT centre and passed with normal readings.
I had a similar problem when I first got my current Clio. Didn't run too well, exhaust tips were very sooty and only achieved around 24-26mpg. Filled it up with then Optimax and gave it a real good blast for over an hour and got everything nice and hot. Filled up again and reset the trip...
The hose that comes out the side of the airbox goes down the gap between the battery and headlight and if there attaches to an acoustic valve. The hose that come out of the bottom of the airbox go along underneath the airbox towards the front of the airbox where in front of the airbox to the...
If you needed a daily car, keep the Trophy and go for option B. But rather than get a MK1 for track use only, go for something RWD like a MK1 MX5, cheap to run and maintain and huge amount of aftermarket performance parts that make it very easy to up the performance as your skill increase.

Why is it that Trophy's in particular always seem to polarize peoples opinions on this board like no other Clio before it?
Like my Clio172 before it, the Trophy is a great car, though I suspect the the Clio200 Cup has moved the game on a little bit. Would I buy one to replace the Trophy...
Renault says 2 years/12k miles and recommend Elf Excellium oil (standard OE oil) for 172/182. I only do around 6k miles a year change my oil once a year as do a lot of short journeys with only the odd blast on the weekends and my car is not highly tuned (chip + exhaust). However, if you have...
