Higher octane fuel is LESS flammable that lower RON fuels, this means there is more control over the combustion, so the spark always lights the fuel, I believe pinking is when the fuel enters the hot cylinder and detonates before the spark, causing damage and less power, it's not firing when needed.
Sorry to hear about this mate! So frustrating that its completely not your fault and that some tw*t can take everything away from you in just a second. Hope you make a speedy recovery and get another clio ASAP :)
As said above, they don't rust that much. Just check the boot floor, and inner wings for any accident damage as normal, and make sure it's got decent history
Cheers for the replies! Think I will just stick with the cup until I can afford a bigger upgrade. No point in selling the clio for something cheap though, I already own the car so the initial outlay is done and it does 34-38 mpg, can't really get much cheaper lol
I currently have a 172 cup, I'm looking for something different, weighing up the options but tbh I will probably end up keeping it lol. I've looked at m3's, evo 6's and m5's, but being 19 insurance is a joke. I was just wondering if a trophy is much of a step up from the 172 cup really. I like...
Trophy is worth more because its a limited edition at the end of the day. There were only 500, so it's pretty rare where as ff's aren't so. It has better suspension, nice seats and is exclusive. It's the same with 306's, gti6 is worth very little but a rallye is worth about half as much again...
It clearly doesn't have 230bhp, if it had that much power the modifications would be listed as said above. It will be the classic no clue owner who reads the box of his k&n saying 'could add up to 20bhp' and says right so my exhaust adds 20, k&n adds 15, map adds 25 so it's clearly 230 bhp...
Saw the 172 cup parked by Southampton airport, looked standard and clean, and the trophy in the Fishers Pond pub car park, filthy but looked tidy. Anyone on here?
I've also noticed no one seems to bother with s/s exhausts? Is this purely because they aren't that old yet or are standard exhausts pretty unrestrictive as is?
It may be nicer than the mini you had when you were 18, but it would be even nicer had it not been messed about with. The lights and wheels look horrible yet probably cost about £300, what a waste I would take the standard car every day of the week. And for the record I'm only 19 and I have...
Sounds about what I assumed then really. I appritiate this isn't an ideal place, but I have seen a few members with Megane's on here, and was just looking for some back to back experiences really
I swear every other word was f*cking lol. Suprised the St was faster off the mark and then the clio kept up. I expected the clio to be faster to around 40, even by 60 and the ford to walk off after
Thanks for the quick replies, so the general feeling is standard they are slightly quicker, but with a map much quicker. How does a remap effect the drivechain though? I know with modern diesels many people have problems with clutches and duel mass flywheels shortly after, is this the case with...
I have a Clio 172 cup, I was looking to upgrade to a Astra VXR, but have been put off by the handling and reliability of the turbos and gear box's, I've started to look into megane r26's, but on paper they don't seem to be much faster than the clio, is this the case?
I'm 19, and I have a 172 cup and I pay £1200 fully comp with a £500 excess, 2 years NCB held my licence 2 years. Another tip is that 306 gti-6's are much cheaper to insure, get one of them for a year ;)
Clio 172 cup is 1010kg, standard 172/182 are 1090, weight loss is due too no a/c, thinner glass in the side windows, no abs, bench rear seat and light weight speed line wheels
Sell it and get something else. Its just one of those engines that uses alot of fuel, either live with it or get shot. My 306 gti-6 was the same, drank petrol, I think the Clio's are just suprisingly cheap too run for what they are because, they are light only 1100kg I believe, and the engine...
£1500 is great for a first car, I payed £3000 for a diesel 306 first year at 17 0 NCB, then £3000 for a 306 gti-6 second year at 18 with 1 year NCB, and now pay £1300 for my 172 cup this year at 19 with 2 years NCB, and I thought that was cheap! haha
I wouldn't say Toyo T1-R's were budget tires? I have them on mine and have had no problems, just drive slower in the wet and leave slightly bigger gaps so you can stop in time, drive too the conditions and the car
Thank you, is the s50 engine from the e36 evo then? Rather than the normal one. Does sound like a cracking little car, and a lovely example. I may be a fellow owner in a couple of years too come!
I know this is a post late on in the thread, but how do these compare too e46 m3's? I was looking at upgrading too an m3 next, (in a few years realisticly), but I didn't realise these were such a close match on performance. What are the engine differences between the two giving the m3 slightly...
