You're right. The oil is somewhat more sparkly than it should be.
The question is, is it repairable and if it is, is it more cost effective to repair or buy a reasonable used box? 🤔
I'll be getting under it as soon as it stops chucking it down lol.
Will drop the oil, as you say.
It's making that noise whilst rolling, either in gear, out of gear or with the clutch in.
When I engage 5th, it crunches in and gets very judder (almost feels like it's jamming against something...
Thanks for the quick answers!
I think the box is toast tbh. I've had to limp home 15 miles or so and its making some truly frightening noises, especially in 5th when it grinds and judder. I very quickly went back to 4th and nursed it home.
I took a quick video, it's a bit quite but you csn...
So my gearbox is now making fighting noises, and has clearly had enough of being abused by the turbo.
Other than another 129 gearbox, what other replacement options are there?
I seem to recall some boosted clios' with gearboxes from DCi clios? but I think they were running more power than...
I think that's the bit I'm missing. I did bridge the contacts on the clutch connector but still nothing.
I ordered the clutch switch but turns out its not the same as the 182 and is simply another brake pedal switch.
I'll get one ordered and take it from there.
If you see a load of CC bits up...
Si, I've retro fitted cruise control to my 02 plate Clio 172.....except I can't get it to activate.
Everything has been changed out for CC parts, the only thing which I've not added is the switch that would sit above the clutch pedal.
From the reading I've done, I don't believe this should...
It's definitely been worth doing.
Probably cost me around the £2k mark all in, but that includes rebuilding the head, fitting a new Renault water pump, dephaser and belts etc, so worked out a lot cheaper than a drive in drive out service, and learnt lots in the process.
Some bits sound more...
Also, while I remember:
The turbo downpipe seems a few mm lower than the standard NA manifold arrangement, which meant at certain revs the Cat pipe would vibrate on the subframe which drove me batshit.
I fitted Vibratech engine and gearbox mounts and pollied the exhaust mounts which calmed it...
So, just over a year since the conversion and it's going strong!
The turbo has been faultless and following Chris @ EFIs advice, I changed the actuator to a Garrett item and it now holds boost much better.
I changed the newly fitted Luk clutch after a few hundred miles after it lost the will...
I had similar thoughts about getting another engine to tinker with but £500 seems to be about the lowest you'll pay now 🤷
I may well look at selling the Clio on, and get a Meg 250/265.
I used the ED downpipe with the V band fitting.
Pe
I found it makes connecting to the cat a little easier as you can leave the down pipe disconnect from the turbo to give you get more access to the stupid sprung loaded bolts. Just a case of wiggling it back up and connecting the V band once...
I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.
You seemed baffled that anyone agreed with sentiments.
As has been said countless times, many other sports cats (and other items deemed not for road use) can and do pass Mots.
Also from past experiences with sports cats that have passed Mots...
"Had it said this I'd never have bought it, though I expect the number of people buying this, thinking it a good replacement because of the ambiguity of their ad must be quite high"
"Ktec having that as their get out of jail free card is quite frankly pathetic, they've clearly done it because...
As we discussed, my feeling and many here echo the sentiments, is that it isn't worded well at all.
Also many items not for road use are regularly fitted to vehicles that can and do pass MOTs, so yes your write up absolutely should say what the decat (sorry 'sports cat') is intended for.
But...
As has been said a few times, it's a bit ambiguous.
There are many things fitted 'not for road use' yet can and do pass MOTs.
Their write up needs to be much better worded.
A catalyst that doesn't catalyst is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike 🤷
Fair comment.
Correctly fitted with new Renault doughnut gasket and mated to a full stainless K-Tec recessed cat back exhaust system.
Chris @ EFI remapped the car after I converted it to a turbo and the AFRs are bang on.
The old OEM cat passed emisions at 0.03ppm (iirc) but failed on exhaust...
