Sorry, should have been more specific:
Flashes without the key in.
Key in and turn to 2nd position and the light goes solid red, then the immobiliser light goes out and will then turn over.
On occasion it will just crank over but the pump won't prime.
It's such an intermittent fault that...
It's not an imobaliser issue. I've got two working keys and it'll intermittently not start on either key, but the immobiliser light is solid and not flashing indicating that the imobaliser isn't the issue.
I'll defo check the earth strap, and you're not the first to say this, so if the problem...
Big bump!
Did anyone get to the bottom of this?
Seems to be a fairly common occurrence and now happening to my 172.
Working my way through possible faults and so far changed the starter, fuel pump, crank position sensor and three of the seven relays, and still get the intermittent failure to...
The last couple of weeks my Clio 172 turbo has had an intermittent starting issue which I think is actually two different issues.
First issue: occasionally when you try and turn it over, all I get is clicking.
I've found that depressing the clutch pedal will, 9 times out of 10, release this and...
Don't suppose you have a part number for the relay?
I'm having the same issues (new starter so defo not that)
Also.....which relay possition is it? I can't find a definitive "it's this one" picture anywhere 🤦
I was in the same mindset with the cost, but pulled the pin and got the genuine Renault Sport mats for my 172.
Really impressed with the quality and fit. Nice thick mats that look like they should last.
Could someone put a pic up of the relays identifying which one is the starter relay please.
Phase 2 Clio 172
A part number would be handy too 😉
The car is intermittently failing to start. I fitted a brand new starter motor as that was also sticking. I've had all the relays out, cleaned up and...
Imobaliser light isn't flashing, somi don't think that's the issue.
I'll replace the crank sensor as they're not an expensive item, and will change the relays too as they look the same age as the car lol
When it does crank it'll crank 5 or 6 times then cut out. When Ive checked the fuel rail, there's no fuel pressure.
I'm thinking this is either the fuel relay or possibly the crank position sensor?
The pump is brand new.
Possibly but the car is in daily use, so taking it off the road for a short period would be a bit of a ball ache tbh.
I may get the one that comes off sorted and kept as a spare.
I've also got my fuel pump randomly fail to prime, which I think it's likely to be the relay, so gotta find out...
Quick update - So I did a conversion on my existing pump and fitted a return feed. Never fully sealed and would get a whiff of fuel if I filled up the tank, then the motor started to intermittently fail.
I've replaced it with a Bosch pump assembly that replicates the phase 1 assy with built in...
100% the tyres.
Suspension is cup shocks with eibach springs and all checked ok, and handling issues have only arrisen since fitting these wheel and tyre combo.
You can literally feel the tyres flexing if you go into a corner with anything bordering spirited driving. So the front end kinda...
I was going to go with the PS3s, but someone mentioned (on the thread I'm having a proper winge about the RS5s on) that the PS3s may not be much better than the RS5s in terms of stifnesss.
I really don't want to fork out for another set of tyres just to find myself in the same situation 🤷
I know tyres get done to death, but, I'm having issues with my new 15" 2118s that came with Rainsport 5's as the tyre wall on them is way too soft and causing me handling problems.
Without going down trackday tyre route (888, NS2R, AD08's etc) what is there out there that has good grip and...
Surprised to hear you dont rate the PS3s, they typically get a good rep.
Though the same can be said of the Rainsports I guess!
Just had a look at the AD08rs and it's circa £600 fitted after a very quick look. Can't find PS4s in my tyre size, but I will also look at Eagle F1s and see if I can...
Good to see it's not me being paranoid lol.
With expectations, I expected the tyre walls not to be made of chocolate or perhaps some sort of soft cheese 😉🤣
What size tyres are you running out if curiosity?
It may be that the 15s with a a higher tyre wall are less stable than 16scwith a lower profile.
I'd read some good reviews on these, and I agree they're cheap, but damp road grip is shocking (another member on here said his 888r tyres were...
Rears suss is all good:
Cup shocks fitted 24 months ago with Eibach Proline springs.
Had a good look anyway, but it's all good.
I'll be booking in with F1 for PS3s fitted for £288 all in.
Bit of an annoyance but I can't live with the detached/wobbly feeling the Rainsport 5s give 🤷
Thread bump!
I've got Rainsport 5s fitted on my 2118s so 195 50 15's......I absolutely detest them 😒
The side wall is made of chocolate I think. If I put my car into a corner the back end literally wobbles round. I genuinely thought there was an issue with my suspension.
Wet grip is also not...
Genuinely felt very dicey on damp/greasy roads.
On tight corners, if you really stuff it in, as above, it gives a weird 'pogo' effect to the point I've been round to check my suspension because I thought something was wrong with it.
I'm on cup shocks with eibach proline springs, so not a...
I've just got Rainsport 5s on my 2118s, and I I kinda agree with you.
I'd read some good reviews but grip on damp roads is dicey at best and as you say, the tyre walls do flex a fair bit and give a bit of a pogo effect when really pushing on in the corners. I'm quite disappointed in them tbh
