Over on ozrenaultsport forum, there is an up-to-date and well kept list of all 85 of the Phase 1s delivered to Australia in 2001. These were limited edition 'Cup' 172s but had air con and all the other niceties that the phase 2 172 didn't get. They were available in various colours, Iceberg...
Its a complete ballache in stop-start traffic. Today took it on a good country run, about 200km travelled. Before I left I sprayed WD40 around the spindle on both sides of the throttle housing and it was markedly better. Only a temporary fix.
i remember seeing the guy on ebay with the uprated...
I was taking a closer look today and when the butterfly is slightly open there is a small amount of play on the spindle. I assume this means the spindle bushes are shot and have grit in them.
can these be rebuilt easily?
Since getting my phase 1 a couple of years ago, I have had no end of problems with the throttle body. Whenever I think I have cured the problems, they eventually rear their head again.
When I first had the car, the TB would stick. When coming to a stop, revs would hang and I would have to blip...
no rust anywhere and I’ve had a good look. only a tiny bit of surface rust in the spare wheel well, the rubber grommets either side of the tail lights has perished and letting in water. Sanded it back and treated it to some fresh anti corrosion paint
New front O2 sensor fitted today, HT leads should arrive tomorrow and that concludes the mechanical / engine repairs for the time being!
next will be focusing on paint and wheels restoration, small dings and repair a tailgate crease from a previous rear ender
happy snap after a good wash
Every 4 years / 100,000km in Australia probably due to climate and dust. Yeah the cost of belt change isn't too bad. At least with a belt change its a good time to have runners, tensioners, pumps inspected and/or replaced. A number of 'sealed for life' timing chain engines fail because the chain...
Cheers, its getting there. Chances are they are on the ozrenaultsport forum, I think these cars are slowly appreciating and are getting more interest.
Are you selling bits through the classifieds section on cliosport?
Timing belt due this year too, I don't think there are any parts left that...
I bought this Iceberg Silver 172 Phase 1 about 18 months ago for $2000, probably about 800 quid in UK money. It is #60 of 85 brought into Australia in 2001, 215,000km. Its a pretty rare thing, quite a few have been lost but there are still a healthy number on ozrenaultsport forum kicking about...
The next best paint cleaner / degreaser i have used other than snow foam and a lance is autoglyms multi cleaner PM3 in a simple pressure bottle. Comes in 5L container and really does a great job at degreasing before a wash in 1:4 solutions
No such download problems here, so its certainly not a global issue. I can download a HD movie from PS store in 5-10 minutes. I am on a 100mbit cable connection though
Thanks mate, i love it.
Things are changing here in Australia. Fuel is steadily increasing now, and people are tending to leave the big Fords and Holdens in droves.
Can you believe that Australia was the 4th biggest purchaser of the Megane RS250 in the last 12 months. Things are really taking...
Typically, it is torque that kills drivetrain components like gearboxes and driveshafts. The turning force of torque puts gearboxes and diffs under the most stress, so this is what you must be careful of rather than high HP. I have seen supercharged V6's snap their driveshafts clean at the...
